HINES WINS SPRINGFIELD SILVER CROWN
RACE; TYLER RETAKES POINT LEAD
|
August 21, 2006...INDIANAPOLIS - The USAC Silver Crown Series presented
by K&N Engineering point battle has been a game of hot potato over the
course of the last four races, with lead changes apparent more often than not.
Brian Tyler assumed the lead Saturday after finishing second in the "Tony
Bettenhausen 100" at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, won by
Tracy Hines after Tyler's teammate Dave Steele forfeited his first-place finish
after a weight infraction.
Hines, in the No. 37 Indiana Underground Construction Beast/Chevy, started the
day setting a track record, then was credited with leading all 100 laps despite
being passed by Steele on Lap 65. The victory was Hines's fifth career and first
at the mile. Trailing him and Tyler were Josh Wise, Springfield native Donnie
Beechler and Jerry Coons Jr.
Tyler earned the point lead after Bud Kaeding crashed on Lap 67 and fell out of
competition, placing 20th. Kaeding, who entered the event ahead by 18 points,
fell back to second, 26 points behind Tyler.
Neither Tyler nor Kaeding has led the standings for more than one race over the
past four weeks. Tyler will try to break that streak Sept. 3 at the DuQuoin
(Ill.) State Fairgrounds.
