WISE EYES BONUS ATTEMPT, "TONY
BETTENHAUSEN 100" VICTORY AT SPRINGFIELD
|
August 14, 2006...INDIANAPOLIS - Josh Wise will be among the most
motivated drivers to win this Saturday's USAC Silver Crown Series presented by
K&N Engineering race at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill.
Wise, of Riverside, Calif., who has moved to eighth in points after obtaining
fulltime pavement and dirt rides, won the opening leg of the First Financial
Inc. "Trifecta" - which awards a $25,000 bonus to the driver who
sweeps the one-mile dirt races this season - and eyes that prize heading into
the "Tony Bettenhausen 100." Wise won the "Hoosier Hundred"
in May at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, topping teammate Levi Jones on the
final lap.
Wise was among the fastest drivers at Springfield last season, and has nearly
shut out his competition from the top starting spot this season when he shows.
He has four poles in six 2006 starts, and started at the front last year at
Springfield before finishing third.
To have a chance for that $25,000 bonus, Wise will have to break up an ongoing
point battle between the series' point leaders. Bud Kaeding and Brian Tyler, the
only two drivers to win multiple times this season, are engaged in a seesaw
battle that has seen both drivers atop the standings in the last two races.
Kaeding, of Campbell, Calif. pulled out an 18-point advantage after the latest
race at the Terre Haute Action Track, one that saw him best Shane Cottle after
the pair traded the point nine times. Tyler, who won at O' Reilly Raceway Park
at Indianapolis two days earlier, finished 23rd after being involved in an early
race incident.
Tyler, now residing in Mt. Pleasant, N.C., and Kaeding have both been successful
at Springfield. Tyler is the two-time defending champion of the race - despite
starting no better than 16th each time - while Kaeding led 79 laps in his
initial start at the track before finishing second there.
Other entered drivers who have found Victory Lane at Springfield include
three-time winner Dave Darland and 1998 winner Russ Gamester.
