REUTIMANN ADDS NAME TO 2006 SILVER
CROWN SERIES WINNERS LIST
|
July 24, 2006...INDIANAPOLIS - Wayne Reutimann Jr. became the latest and
newest driver Sunday to win a USAC Silver Crown Series presented by K&N
Engineering event
this season, becoming the sixth driver to take a checkered flag in seven races
this season as the series reached its midway point.
Reutimann led only the final lap of the "Milwaukee 100" at The
Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wis., taking the lead when Aaron Pierce - who
originally led Lap 100 - was assessed a one-lap penalty for rough driving and
unsportsmanlike conduct after contact with Brian Tyler. Pierce tapped Tyler on
Lap 100, spinning him out and bringing out a caution, which set up a one-lap
dash to the finish.
Pierce crossed the finish line first, with Reutimann second, followed by Tyler,
Dave Darland and Bud Kaeding. The penalty placed Pierce in fifth.
Reutimann, in the No. 00 Case Contracting DRC/Pink Ford, joined Pierce as the
second driver of 2006 to garner his first career series victory.
Kaeding and Tyler are now tied for the point lead with 369 markers each, but
Kaeding holds the tiebreaker after winning twice to Tyler's once.
Competitors will ready themselves for two races in three days, both pivotal
rounds in the 14-race championship battle. The "J.D. Byrider 100" on
Aug. 3 at the O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis will be the last pavement
race for the series until mid-September, while the first of four dirt races in a
seven-week span is scheduled two days later (Aug. 5) at the Terre Haute Action
Track in Indiana, with the 100-mile "SUMAR Classic."
