July 17, 2006...INDIANAPOLIS - Bud Kaeding and Brian Tyler have shown
their strengths over the five six USAC Silver Crown Series presented by K&N
Engineering races, winning three of six races and finishing in the Top 10 in
every event.
But that doesn't mean their competition isn't closing in of them.
Three drivers - Aaron Pierce, Pete Shepherd III and Bryn Gohn - had career races
July 7 at Chicagoland Speedway, and hope their finishes will continue momentum
Sunday at The Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wis., the seventh of 14 races on the
schedule.
Pierce won at Chicagoland, taking his first USAC Silver Crown win, while rookies
Shepherd and Gohn scored their first Silver Crown podium finishes. In six races,
a total of 11 drivers have scored at least one Top-3 finish. Kaeding, who leads
Tyler by only six points, has four podiums, while Tyler owns three.
Pierce reasserted himself as a title contender after two straight races with
mechanical problems, and is fifth in the standings, only 61 points behind point
leader Kaeding.
Steele might have the best chance to get his second win of the season at the
mile, however. The event is the sixth pavement race of the season, but only the
third one the Silver Crown Series has visited prior to this weekend. Steele won
one of the other two - at Phoenix International Raceway - and led the other. He
led all 100 laps at The Milwaukee Mile last year.
