SILVER CROWN COMPETITORS READY TO UPEND KAEDING AT CHICAGOLAND |

July 3, 2006...COLUMBUS, Ohio - Bud Kaeding has been on a roll as of late
in USAC Silver Crown Series presented by K&N Engineering competition, but
his fellow drivers look to upend him Friday at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill. Kaeding has won the last two Silver Crown races - Kentucky Speedway and Richmond International Raceway - and leads the points by 21 over Brian Tyler as Friday's event marks race No. 300 since the series' inception in 1971. "This place has some similarities to both Kentucky and Homestead," said Kaeding following a Hoosier Tire test last month at the 1.5-mile track, where he was second to Aaron Pierce. "We took some things we learned from both places and applied it here," Kaeding continued. "We're pretty happy with the car, and I'm pretty excited to come back here. Hopefully when we come back for the race, we'll have a little more speed." Pierce was the fastest of five cars during the test, turning laps in excess of 177 mph. He expects the new-style radial tires to add stability and give the cars better handling. "The track was a little faster than Homestead," Pierce said. "The cars aren' t too awful hard to drive. The corners here are a little tight, but overall, it's a pretty neat place." Dave Darland, who competed in the first race of the season at Phoenix International Raceway for RW Motorsports, will return to the car at Chicagoland. Two-time defending series champion Dave Steele will look to get back on track after having engine problems at Richmond. The race will be run in conjunction with the NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series. |
