Set To Begin Year

March 20, 2006 - Chowchilla, CA...The young guns of the Sprint Car
Racing Association (SCRA) are loaded and ready to fire-off the 2006 season when
they visit the 1/3-mile dirt raceway at Chowchilla Speedway on Saturday, March
25th.
Heading the list of talented 360 c.i. non-winged sprint car drivers is Steven
Williams, who hails from the nearby city of Merced. Williams was closing in on
the coveted 2005 Championship when he encountered engine woes during the final
weekend of racing last October. His ill fortune dropped him to the runner-up
spot but he's back for another "run" at the title. Williams will face
tough competition however, not only from Danny Olmstead, who captured two
features last season on his way to third-place in final point standings, but
from veterans Ricci Faria and Davey Pombo, who have committed to running the
entire 2006 SCRA schedule. Faria and Pombo, both from heralded racing families,
have enjoyed successful careers throughout San Joaquin Valley tracks like Kings
Speedway, Tulare Thunderbowl and Oildale (Bakersfield).
Other hot-shoes who want a slice of the pie include Richard Harvey Jr., Jonathan
Logan, Chris D'Arcy, Aaron Chaney and Jim Richardson, all of who finished in
last year's top-ten point chase.
SCRA's Director of Racing Richard Harvey Sr. is excited about the up-coming
season. "I'm very encouraged about our second year of competition because
I've received commitments from so many owners and drivers who plan on racing the
entire season. There should be at least 30 cars in the pits Saturday
night."
