January 4, 2006...Chad Boespflug received his “just dues,” and a
pot-full of prizes when he accepted his 2005 SCRA 360 Championship trophy at the
annual banquet held on Saturday, January 14th in Hanford, CA.
Figuratively speaking, Boespflug required a pickup truck to haul away the
trophies and moneybags which included a beautifully-designed five foot high
trophy signifying his championship, a trophy for being one of only four drivers
to participate in all 13 events, and a bag full of money totaling $2,875.
Boespflug’s “take” included $1,900 from the overall point fund, $300 from
the Forrest Transportation Passing Masters Dash series, and additional cash
prizes and accessory items donated by Pyrotect and Pro Shock.
The 17-year-old high school student is possibly the youngest driver in
the history of open-wheel racing to capture a big-time, nationally recognized
racing association championship.
Other big award winners included Danny Olmstead, who finished third in
the final point standings. Olmstead collected a whopping $800 as winner of the
Dash series, and an overall total of $1,825 including accessories. The Tracy
(CA) resident was also honored as Sportsman of the Year, an award voted upon by
his peers.
Steven Williams garnered $1,500 while Richard Harvey Jr. took home $850
and Jonathan Logan received $800. The
three finished second, fourth and fifth respectively in points.
A few of the top-ten point standing finishers missed the
banquet while participating in the popular Chili Bowl classic, but Matt Day,
Evan Suggs, Brian Schuler and Darren Simas, all who finished outside the
top-ten, were presented with envelopes containing $125 just for attending the
banquet.
At the conclusion of the evening, SCRA Race Director
Richard Harvey Sr. announced that the total prizes and money presented exceeded
$19,000.
The banquet, held in a private hall in Hanford, drew a very
respectable crowd of 100, all of whom seemed to enjoy the tasty buffet dinner
consisting of BBQ Tri-Tip and Breast of Chicken. The room was beautifully decorated by Bettye Harvey, who
received the plaudits of the crowd for producing the entire affair.
