WHEATLAND, Mo. (August 17,
2006) – Hailing from Avon, IN, Jon Stanbrough is in the midst of a career
year, with 19 feature wins already logged in the books for the 2006 season.
Along the way, he's also captured USAC's Sprint Week championship as well
as the King of Indiana Sprint Series title.
Now, he's looking for the
trifecta with a run at the O'Reilly Sprint Bandits COMP Cams Tour 'N Topless
Midwest Swing championship.
And after two of five
nights, Stanbrough is in the driver's seat although he is far from taking total
control as a meager six points separate the top six drivers in points and just
24 markers separate first from tenth.
Stanbrough enters Thursday
night's O'Reilly Sprint Bandits COMP Cams TNT event at Lucas Oil Speedway in
Wheatland, MO, with hot laps getting under way at 7:00 p.m., with a scant
four-point advantage over defending series champion Levi Jones of Olney, IL.
Stanbrough finished third at both I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE, on
Tuesday night and Wichita's 81 Speedway on Wednesday night, with Jones finishing
fourth in both events.
A quartet of drivers are
just another two points back, including I-80 winner Robert Ballou of Rocklin,
CA, and 81 Speedway winner Jesse Hockett of Warsaw, MO, along with Bud Kaeding
of Campbell, CA, and Dickie Gaines of Mitchell, IN.
Also still in the thick of
the COMP Cams TNT championship points race, which offers a $2,500 bonus to top
point earner over the five nights on down to $1,000 for fifth in points, are Mat
Neely (Robinson, IL), Shane Hollingsworth (Indianapolis, IN), Cory Kruseman
(Ventura, CA), Charles Davis, Jr. (Buckeye, AZ) and Preston Peebles II (Lubbock,
TX).
Thursday's card at Lucas Oil
Speedway includes a driver autograph session from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., with Mat
Neely's Lucas Oil Products No. 2b Sprint Car on display.
From there, the series wraps
up the week of intense competition with the annual Wingless Classic at Lakeside
Speedway in Kansas City, KS, on Friday and Saturday, with Saturday night's
winner pocketing $10,000. Past
winners of the prestigious event that awards a coveted Pedal Car trophy include
Bud Kaeding (2005 and 2002), Jesse Hockett (2004 and 2003) and Troy Rutherford
(2001).
Racing action at Lakeside
Speedway gets under way at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday night.
