TULSA,
Okla. (August 1, 2006)-
As the nation's top wingless racers descend upon Southern Iowa Speedway in
Oskaloosa, IA, next Tuesday night, August 8, for the Ultimate Challenge, there
will be a new look for the prestigious $30,000-to-win event sanctioned by the
O'Reilly Sprint Bandits COMP Cams Tour 'N Topless series.
At
the request of racers and fans alike, time trials have been replaced by the
popular Sprint Bandits format of heat races and qualifying races, which paces a
premium on every position gained or lost every time out on the track.
"Our
number one goal is to provide a great show for our race fans," commented
Terry McCarl, one-half of McTwo Promotions along with business partner Bill
McCroskey.
"I think the Sprint Bandits format is definitely fan friendly and
provides great racing."
"It's
also something that the owners and drivers all indicated they wanted to
do," McCarl continued.
"I talked to probably twenty different teams, and every one of them
said the same thing: they all said they didn't want to time trial, they wanted
to do the Sprint Bandits format."
With
the O'Reilly Sprint Bandits TNT format, drivers will draw for heat race starting
position.
With passing points in effect, points will be tallied at the conclusion
of heat races, with a like number of qualifying races to follow with a six-car
inversion in each qualifying race.
Thus, the top point earner in heat race action will start sixth in the
first qualifying race.
Passing
points are in effect for the qualifying races as well.
Combined points from the heats and qualifying races will determine
feature lineups.
Along
with the enhanced format, there will be some added bonuses for the racers
throughout the night as well.
Weld Racing will award a free set of front hubs to each heat race winner,
with ButlerBuilt giving a free steering wheel.
Among a number of other awards to be doled out over the night will be the
Car Wash Mike $250 Hard Luck Award.
The
nation's top wingless drivers are expected to contend for next Tuesday night's
$30,000 top prize, including defending Ultimate Challenge winner and 2005 Sprint
Bandits TNT champion Levi Jones, Bud Kaeding, Dave Darland, Cory Kruseman,
Damion Gardner, Bryan Clauson, Josh Wise, Darren Hagen, Daron Clayton, 2004
Ultimate Challenge winner Dickie Gaines and the nation's winningest non-wing
driver thus far in 2006, Jon Stanbrough.
Also,
some top winged racers typically shed their wings for this special event,
including 2002 race winner Travis Rilat and two-time Lakeside Speedway Wingless
Classic winner Jesse Hockett.
Grandstand
tickets for Tuesday night's Ultimate Challenge are just $25, with pit passes
available for $30.
Infield party pass tickets are just $20, with children 12 and under only
