RICHMOND,
Va. – June 24, 2006 – Peter Shepherd recorded the best finish of his
rookie season in the USAC Silver Crown Series finishing 6th Saturday
at the Richmond Times-Dispatch 100 at Richmond International Raceway. Rain
washed out qualifying and the field was set based upon practice times. When the
green flag dropped, the young Canadian moved the No. 199 Carl Edwards/ R.E.
Technologies Silver Crown car up through the field. Conserving his equipment,
Shepherd stuck to the game plan and followed USAC veterans.
“I
feel comfortable when I am behind veterans like Brian Tyler, Dave Steele and Bud
Kaeding,” said Peter Shepherd. “Those are guys that I can gauge myself off
of. I pick up little things every time. You never stop learning as a racecar
driver.”
Shepherd
moved the No. 199 Ford powered C&R car to 4th late in the race.
On lap 90, the No. 199 encountered a problem with its left rear which sent the
car into the wall. The C&R chassis protected Shepherd on the impact and he
walked away without a scratch.
“The Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing team has always had a great car
since I have been behind the wheel,” said Shepherd. “A couple of cars had
problems tonight and unfortunately we were one of them.”
Peter Shepherd and the team finished 6th but believed their car was
capable of winning.
“The car has always been capable of running near the front but now I feel that
I am at a level where I can guide the car up to the front more often,” said
Shepherd. “I want to thank everyone on the crew Robert Gant, Robert Hubbard
and Chris Santucci. Our Ford engine had all of the power when we needed it
this weekend.”
The USAC Silver Crown Series presented by K&N visits the 1.5 mile oval at
Chicagoland Speedway on June 29th. The series will share the track
with the NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series that weekend.
