| Coons and Stenhouse Prepare for Hoosier Hundred with Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing |

Memphis, Tenn. – May 23, 2006 – Veteran Jerry Coons Jr. and Rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr. are looking for a good evening at the 54th edition of the Hoosier Hundred. For Coons, it is a return to a familiar seat, one that he almost won with in 2001. “We have been fast there in the past,” said the Arizona native who will wheel the No. 99 Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing Ford. “We are running the same car that we have been good at on all of the dirt miles. We led some laps there and came in second in 2001 but we would like to lead the last lap there this year.” For Stenhouse, driving the No. 35 Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing Ford is an opportunity to take another step in his racing career. “It seems like when anybody that has been in Silver Crown™ or asphalt sprint car and has moved on to NASCAR they have just been real successful real early,” said Stenhouse. “USAC gets a lot of exposure in Open Wheel no matter on dirt or asphalt. I believe that is where you need to be. This is what I need to get my name out there.” Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has been quite successful behind the wheel of a winged sprint car winning in the USCS and ASCS Series. He was named the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame 360 Dirt Winged Sprint Car Rookie of the Year in 2003. The Hoosier Hundred will mark his second start in USAC and his first start in the USAC Silver Crown Series presented by K&N. “The Hoosier Hundred is going to be a big learning experience for me,” said Stenhouse. “To get out there on a big mile track, with no wing, I think it will be real fun. I have a lot to learn and I need to learn it fast in the practice session so we can have a good showing in the race.” JERRY’S BUSY WEEKEND The Hoosier Hundred is not the only race that Jerry Coons will participate in this weekend. Thursday night, he will climb into the No. 69 Hoffman Auto Racing car for USAC National Sprint Car Series action at Kokomo, Indiana. On Saturday, he will pilot the No. 11 Wilke-Pak midget for the Night before the 500 USAC National Midget Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park. His busy weekend will wrap up Sunday behind the wheel of the Carl Warnke No. 23 midget at Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. COONS OFF TO FAST START Jerry Coons Jr. has been busy this spring, driving in USAC’s National Midget and Sprint divisions as well as the Silver Crown division. Coons is currently fourth in the USAC National Midget division driving the No. 11 Wilke-Pak entry. The Arizona native is seventh in USAC National Sprint Car points sharing time in the No. 69 Hoffman Auto Racing entry with Tracy Hines. The Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing Ford team is currently sixth in owner’s points. RACING OR COMMENCEMENT? Ricky Stenhouse will also have a busy weekend. Following the Hoosier Hundred, the 18-year-old will return home to receive his high school diploma from Desoto Central High School. Stenhouse is graduating with honors. He plans on attending college to become an accountant. PROM OR RACING? “Definitely racing,” smiled Stenhouse. Since the age of six, Ricky Stenhouse has been working with racecars. “I have grown up around racing and it is all I have ever wanted to do,” continued the USAC rookie. “It is all I ever been around. I would rather work on the racecar than go out with friends.” That doesn’t mean that you won’t see the Olive Branch, Mississippi native out with friends. The young driver is just focused on his career. SWEAT EQUITY Ricky Stenhouse has spent some of that time working in the Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing shop. Stenhouse worked on the No. 99 Silver Crown car at Homestead during his spring break. He has also had a large hand in building the No. 35 Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing Ford/ J&J/ DynoTech from the ground up. “I
think it is important to help build the car because you get all of the aspects
of the car,” said Stenhouse. Stenhouse’s
father Rick Stenhouse Sr., owner of DynoTech, prepared the DynoTech engine for
the race. THE HISTORIC HOOSIER HUNDRED The
Hoosier Hundred has a rich history. Great drivers like Jimmy Bryan, A.J. Foyt,
Mario Andretti and Al Unser have all clamed wins on the historic dirt mile at
the Indiana State Fairgrounds. “The
Hoosier Hundred has a lot of big names on the winner’s list,” said Jerry
Coons Jr. “This would be a special race to win.”
The 54th running of the Hoosier Hundred is scheduled for
