– The popular Hunt Magnetos wingless sprint car division will make its
first appearance of the 2006 racing season this Saturday at Placerville
Speedway. The fast growing division will be the fourth division of racing on
hand for the second round of the El Dorado County New Car Dealer’s, Hoosier
Racing Tires Championship racing season.
Saturday’s event will mark the first of seven season appearances by the
wingless sprints at the El Dorado County ¼ mile clay oval as driver compete
in a co-championship with Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for the 2006 Hunt
Magnetos Wingless Sprint John
Padjen Motorsports championship.
With two events complete in the series
so far, both taking place at Silver Dollar Speedway, Danny Olmstead of
Tracy
leads the wingless sprint point standings. Bob Newberry of Oakley is currently
second in the ranks, matching Olmstead in the win column with a single victory
thus far. Dave Hays Jr. is third in the standings ahead of Matt Streeter, Don
Emery, Jeremy Hawes and Jay Youngman. Nearly 30 drivers are expected in this
division Saturday night.
In the Winged Sprint car division, Andy Forsberg of
Auburn
will return in the point lead after his opening night victory. Forsberg enters
round two of the championship campaign two digits ahead of
Roseville
’s Chad Riolo. Defending champion Joey Magaruh of
Vacaville
ranks third with former two time track champion Billy Sellers of Sacramento
sitting fourth. Rouding out the top ranks is
Placerville
’s Scott Russel and Jade Parker in the sixth and seventh positions ahead of
Grass
Valley
’s Billy Wallace and Colby Weisz of Colfax.
In the Pure Stock division, well over
20 cars are once again expected and track officials will be watching closely
for actions of rough driving or unsportsmanlike actions in this second night
of racing.
In the season opener, nearly 75
percent of the 24-car field was involved incidents during the feature event
that were the result of over aggressive driving and unsafe maneuvers, items
that will not be tolerated by director of competition Mike Andreeta and
supporting officials for the remainder of the season who not hesitate to issue
penalties and possible suspensions to future violators.
After the opening night destruction
derby took place, defending track champion Mike McClure of
Nevada
City
was the early season point leader and sits one digit ahead of
Placerville
’s Bob Treat. Doug Grandboise of
Jackson
ranks third in front of Folsom’s Tom Tilford and local drivers William
Grady, Chris Curtiss and Brian Bucholz.
In the Pro Stock division feature winner Marek Bernert holds the point
lead one point ahead of
Auburn
’s Wayne Trimble. Del Tremblay of Camino sits in the third position ahead of
returning veteran Jeff Arbogast of
Auburn
, Mike Moran of
Rancho Cordova
and Jeff Gavard of
Placerville
.
Action is set to begin with
qualifying at
6:30
for the winged sprint cars. The gates to the speedway will open at
5 p.m.
