(OCTOBER
17, 2006, PERRIS, CA) Damion
Gardner and Cory Kruseman will continue their crowd pleasing season long fight
for the championship when Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply presents the
USAC/CRA Sprint Cars at Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, October 21st.
In addition, former Indianapolis 500 winners Al Unser Sr. and Parnelli
Jones will be on the track in special exhibitions.
Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00.
USAC/CRA
CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT: Gardner, the
Concord, California resident who won the 2005 USAC/CRA Championship, took the
point lead back from archrival Kruseman at the last race at The PAS two weeks
ago. Amazingly, Gardner had to
restart at the rear of the field after having work done to his car and drove all
the way to a stirring third place finish. Kruseman,
who calls Ventura, California home, ended up three spots behind Gardner in
sixth. Heading into the main event,
they were deadlocked for the point lead, but Gardner carries a nine-point
advantage heading into Saturday’s show.
DANNY
SHERIDAN: The driver known as “Showtime” finally got the monkey off his back
and won his first ever USAC/CRA main event at The PAS two weeks ago when he led
the last 25 circuits of the 30 lap main event.
The Santa Maria, California resident had been close on many occasions,
but when he finally bagged his initial win, he did it in convincing style.
To add some icing to the cake, Sheridan backed up his USAC/CRA win with a
victory on his home track (Santa Maria Speedway) in the Grand Slam Series last
Saturday night.
JOSH
WISE: USAC National Sprint Car Series point leader Josh Wise will make the
journey from Indiana to drive one of the beautiful Mark Priestly owned cars at
The PAS this Saturday night. Wise,
a 23-year old who was born in Janesville, Wisconsin and grew up in Riverside,
California, leads Levi Jones by 123 points in the National standings.
Earlier this year Wise posted his second win in the prestigious
Belleville Midget Nationals. He
will return to The PAS for the running of the 11th Annual Budweiser
Oval Nationals, presented by Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply, on November 2nd
, 3rd and 4th, in one of two Tony Stewart Racing
Enterprises cars entered in the event (Levi Jones will be in the other).
Do not be surprised if other Midwest teams show up this Saturday as well
as this will be the last race at The PAS before the Oval Nationals.
AGROMIN
SOIL PRODUCTS TROPHY DASH: Agromin Soil Products, a longtime sponsor of sprint
car racing, will present a four-lap trophy dash for Saturday’s four heat race
winners. The winner of the dash
will pocket $250.00.
AL
UNSER SR., PARNELLI JONES & JIMMY OSKIE: In addition to the USAC/CRA races,
a trio of racing greats will be on the track for special exhibitions.
Al Unser Sr. will be behind the wheel of the famous Vel’s Parnelli
Jones Viceroy Car that carried him to the 1973 USAC National Dirt Car
Championship. Parnelli Jones, who
last year hopped in the former Bruce Bromme Sr. car driven by Dean Thompson to
his last ever CRA title, will be behind the wheel of the beautiful Leonard Faas
King O’Lawn Sprint Car. Hall of
Famer Jimmy Oskie will take over the driving chores of the Bromme red #1.
In addition, a car from the 1918 Indianapolis 500 will be on the track as
well.
LEGENDS
OF ASCOT: Saturday afternoon the
Annual Legends of Ascot will take place at The PAS as well.
Popular Glenn Howard will receive the Legends of Ascot Lifetime
Achievement Award. The event will
honor drivers Lealand McSpadden, Wally Pankratz, Jimmy Oskie, Walt James and
Jack Brunner. In addition car
owners Jack & Wilda Kindoll will also be honored as will aluminum block
engine builder Ed Donovan. Al Unser
Sr. will be a special guest honoree. More
than 60 vintage sprint cars and midgets will be on hand and all fans will be
able to get an up close look at them.
DANCE
CONTEST RETURNS: Through The PAS first ten years of existence, the weekly
intermission dance contest for kids was a popular part of the show.
When the 2006 season began in February, the dance was shelved.
However, by popular demand from kids and parents, the dance contest will
return on a weekly basis beginning this Saturday night.
