(SEPTEMBER
12, 2006, PERRIS, CA)
When Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply presents the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars
at Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, September 16th, it will be
Back to School Night at The PAS. All
students who show a current school id at the ticket booth will get in for free!
Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00.
Saturday
will mark the first appearance for the series at The PAS since the wild and very
bizarre race of two weeks ago. Fans
who left early that night missed some great racing, rough crashes, a wild finish
and a near brawl in the pits. Simply
put, it was a strange and very entertaining night.
The
controversial race ended when Temecula, California ‘s Mike Spencer, who
celebrated his 25th birthday the day before, passed Norco,
California’s Tony Jones out of the last turn for the win in the 40-lap main
event. The crowd went wild at the
exciting finish, but the race was really not over.
Hardly! After nearly a week
of interviews and reviews, USAC declared that Spencer made an unauthorized tire
change and installed Jones as the winner. It
was the fourth main event win of the year for the rejuvenated Jones and car
owner Mark Alexander. Spencer was
relegated to ninth while former USAC Western Midget Champion Johnny Rodriguez of
Elk Grove, California moved up to second and series leading rookie Blake Miller,
of Yorba Linda, California, was moved up to third for his second podium finish
in a week.
Undaunted
by the decision that did not go his way, Spencer, who is a class act on and off
the track, brought the disputed first place trophy to Ventura last Saturday
night and gave it to Jones in the pit area.
He then proceeded to qualify fifth quick and place third in his heat.
In the main event, he took the lead from rookie sensation Matt Mitchell
(Yorba Linda, CA) heading into turn three on the last lap and posted the second
410 sprint car main event win of young career.
Spencer will be out to add to that total in this Saturday’s 30-lap
feature.
The
vicious fight for the 2006 USAC crown will continue this Saturday between
Concord, California’s Damion Gardner and Cory Kruseman of Ventura, California.
The last two races have been tough on the title-chasing duo as they both
crashed in the last main at The PAS and did not finish.
Last Saturday at Ventura, Kruseman finished in the eighth spot while
Gardner, who led the first 13 laps, spun out on the 14th circuit and
ended up 11th. Gardner
will carry a 23-point advantage over Kruseman when they take to Don Kazarian’s
famous Riverside County clay oval this Saturday night.
Will
there be great, side by side racing this Saturday night?
Absolutely! Will there be
nerf bar bending contact in the corners and fun for the whole family?
You bet! Will it look like
there is a bench clearing hockey brawl breaking out in the pits sometime during
the night? Uhhhh, probably not!
Saturday’s
hard hitting night of Major League Sprint Car Racing will feature qualifying,
four 10 lap heat races, a 12-lap B Main and a wild 30-lap A Main event.
Advance
tickets are on sale 24 hours a day by calling 1-800-595-4849.
You can also order advance tickets on the Internet at tix.com or

Saturday
night’s affair on Riverside County’s only clay half-mile oval will be
preceded by Friday’s drag racing action on the Street Legal Strip at The PAS
Drag Strip. Gates at the drag strip
open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:00. The
drag strip is also located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds.
Perris
Auto Speedway is located on the freeway close Lake Perris Fairgrounds, home of
the Southern California Fair, approximately one hour east of Los Angeles and one
hour North of San Diego. To get to
the track, take the 215 freeway, exit on the Ramona Expressway and go two miles
east to the fairgrounds.
