(AUGUST
28, 2006, PERRIS, CA) Racing
fans will get a lot of bang for their buck when Temecula Valley Pipe &
Supply presents the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars in the Annual Jeff Bagley Classic on
CRA’s 60th Anniversary weekend this Saturday night, September 2nd,
at Perris Auto Speedway. Drivers
will get a lot of extra bangs and some extra bucks as well as the 40-lap main
event will pay a whopping $4,750.00 to the winner.
Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00.
The
Annual Jeff Bagley Classic honors the memory of 1988 CRA Rookie of the Year Jeff
Bagley along with his parents Paul and Helen Bagley.
Jeff Bagley lost his life in a racing crash at Ascot Park in May of 1989.
His parents were fatally injured in a racing incident at The PAS three
years ago.
Anne
Wilkerson, current USAC/CRA car owner and a close friend of the Bagley’s,
spearheaded this year’s Bagley Classic drive and she raised $8,200.00 extra
for the purse. The extra money will
be spread through the field. Saturday’s
night’s main event winner will pocket an extra $2,000.00 to take home a
minimum of $4,750.00. Second place
will pay an extra $1,500.00 and third place will earn an extra $1,000.00.
The remainder will be spread throughout the evening including $500.00 to
the leader of lap 21 of the main. That
lap honor’s Jeff Bagley who drove the #21 sprint car.
“We
are pleased to be hosting the Jeff Bagley Classic again and to be honoring Jeff,
Paul and Helen,” Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian said last
Saturday. “It is a big race and
it comes on Labor Day Weekend and the 60th anniversary weekend of the
first ever CRA race. Anne Wilkerson
did a great job in raising an extra $8,200.00 for the purse.
We want to thank her and thank everyone who donated to the purse.”
At
intermission a ticket will be drawn from those who donated to the purse and the
winner will receive a one of a kind quilt custom made with original Ascot Park
t-shirts.
Wilkerson
also announced last week that her sprint car would be back on the track this
week with popular star Mike Kirby in the diver’s seat.
Kirby, the 1993 CRA champion, has not raced since July 1st.
The 42 year-old former Ascot Figure 8 champion from Torrance, California,
has recorded 61 lifetime sprint car wins. His
last win was at the Annual Sokola Classic at The PAS on May 13th.
Rip
Williams, of Yorba Linda, California, will be one Kirby’s main combatants
Saturday at The PAS. Williams
scored the 103rd win of his illustrious career at Santa Maria
Speedway last Saturday night. USAC/CRA
point leader Damion Gardner (Concord, California), Cory Kruseman (Ventura,
California), Mike Spencer (Temecula, California), Tony Jones (Norco, California)
and the rest of the USAC/CRA superstars will all be in action this Saturday.
Saturday’s
action will consist of hot laps, qualifying, four ten lap heat races, a 12-lap B
main event and a 40-lap A main event. And,
the drivers will all get along perfectly, there will be no bumping, no finger
point and no shouting! If you
believe that last line, you are in for a RUDE AWAKENING!
This is Sprint Car Racing no
holds bar style where friendships are left on the street outside the
track and making an enemy over $4,750.00 is part of the job!
Advance
tickets are on sale 24 hours a day by calling 1-800-595-4849.
You can also order advance tickets on the Internet at tix.com or

Saturday
night’s affair on Riverside County’s only clay half-mile oval will be
preceded by Friday’s drag racing action on the Diamond Valley Honda Street
Legal Strip at The PAS Drag Strip. Gates
at the drag strip open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:00.
The drag strip is also located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds.
Perris
Auto Speedway is located on the freeway close Lake Perris Fairgrounds, home of
the Southern California Fair, approximately one hour east of Los Angeles and one
hour North of San Diego. To get to
the track, take the 215 freeway, exit on the Ramona Expressway and go two miles
east to the fairgrounds.
