(JUNE
20, 2006, PERRIS, CA) Cory
Kruseman and Damion Gardner will continue their season long fight for the
USAC/CRA Championship when Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply presents the
popular series at Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, June 24, on
“Tattoo Night.” Fans who show a
real tattoo at the ticket booth will get into this Saturday’s race for only
$5.00! Spectator gates will open at
5:00 PM with racing at 7:00.
Gardner,
the 2005 USAC/CRA Champion who resides in Concord, California, wrestled the
point lead away from Kruseman on May 13th at The PAS.
He extended the point lead to 39 markers, but Kruseman began chipping
away at the total on May 27th and has clawed is way back to within three points
of his archrival heading into this Saturday’s race.
Last
week at Santa Maria Speedway, Kruseman, a 35 year old father of one from
Ventura, California, passed Gardner on lap 10 and led the final 20 laps for his
third win of the 2006 campaign. Gardner
got tangled up with a lapped car and ended up 12th after restarting
at the back of the field. Only
Gardner, with four wins, has more victories in the series than Kruseman in 2004.
While
Gardner and Kruseman garner most of the headlines in the three-year-old series,
a bevy of other drivers have stepped up their efforts in 2006 and have been
offering a stiff challenge to the dynamic duo.
Currently, the hottest of the challengers is Temecula, California’s
Mike Spencer. A 24-year old who
earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona, Spencer finished
second to Kruseman at Santa Maria. One
week before that, the well-liked driver won his first ever main event when he
beat veterans Rip Williams (Yorba Linda, CA) and Rickie Gaunt (Torrance, CA) to
the checkered flag at The PAS. The
prior race at The PAS, Spencer finished second to Tony Jones (Norco, CA) in the
annual Salute to Indy. Spencer’s
father, Mike Sr., was co-Rookie of the year in the original CRA back in 1976.
Like
the other PAS theme nights, Saturday’s Tattoo Night is designed to reward
loyal fans and introduce new fans to the exciting sport of dirt track racing.
Any fan with a real tattoo that can be shown in public will get into the
races for just $5.00 on Saturday. All
they have to do is show the tattoo at the ticket booth.
If a fan does not have a tattoo, but they want to get into the races for
$5.00, The PAS will have a tattoo artist at the front gate to put on the ink.
Saturday
will also be the final night of the annual “Kid’s Month” at The PAS.
All kids 12 and under who are accompanied by an adult will get into the
races for free.
Saturday’s
clay slingin’ expose of unbridled sprint car horsepower will feature hot laps,
qualifying, four 10 lap heat races, C Main (if necessary), a B Main and a 30 lap
no holds barred A Main event.
Advance
tickets are on sale 24 hours a day by calling 1-800-595-4849.
You can also order advance tickets on the Internet at tix.com or
perrisautospeedway.com.
Saturday
night’s affair on Riverside County’s only clay half-mile oval will be
preceded by Friday’s drag racing action on the Diamond Valley Honda Street
Legal Strip at The PAS Drag Strip. Gates
at the drag strip open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:00.
The drag strip is also located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds.
Perris
Auto Speedway is located on the freeway close Lake Perris Fairgrounds, home of
the Southern California Fair, approximately one hour east of Los Angeles and one
hour North of San Diego. To get to
the track, take the 215 freeway, exit on the Ramona Expressway and go two miles
east to the fairgrounds.
