(MAY
30. 2006, PERRIS, CA)
Perris Auto Speedway will kick off its Annual Kid’s Month this Saturday
night, June 3rd. All
kids 12 and under will be admitted free every Saturday in June when they are
accompanied by an Adult. The
Art’s Concrete Pumping Extreme Topless Late Models, MC Builders Super Stocks,
Street Stocks and the Sport Compacts will supply the on track action this
Saturday night. Spectator gates
will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:30.
Other
programs in Kid’s Month will be the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars on June 10th
and 24th and the Late Models, California Lightning Sprint Cars, Super
Stocks, Street Stocks and Pick-A-Part Cruisers on June 17th.
Promoter
Don Kazarian introduced Kid’s Month in 2001.
“We started it to reward our loyal and fans,” said the veteran
promoter. “We also did it to
attract and introduce some new people who are not race fans.
As it has turned out the past couple years, it has helped families even
more with the high price of gasoline.”
Torrance,
California’s Carla Laney, sister of USAC/CRA Sprint Car star Mike Kirby, will
be after her second straight win in the popular Late Model class.
At the last race two weeks ago, Laney led all 20 laps and beat her
sponsor and famous Harley-Davidson dealer Bill Bartels (Marina Del Rey, CA) to
the Eddie Ramirez checkered flag. It
was Laney’s first win of the 2006 campaign.
Temecula, California’s Chad Jones continues to lead the Late Model
point standings, but Art Peterson (Cathedral City, CA) has closed the gap to six
points heading into Saturday’s show.
Riverside,
California’s Mark Shackelford holds a comfortable 41-point lead over
Carpinteria, California’s Ed Perry as the season approaches the halfway point
in the Super Stocks. Shackelford
has been nothing short of amazing in his first year racing on dirt.
In the first six races of the season, he has yet to finish worse than
fourth and has three second place finishes.
Perry won his first ever PAS regular season main event at the last race
two weeks ago.
A
pair of Moreno Valley, California drivers sit on top of the point standings in
the Street Stock Class. Don Zoll,
the 2004 champion, leads Curtis Dietzsch by 43 markers in the standings.
Zoll won his first race of the current season two weeks ago when he
bested Jake Everhart (Perris, CA) and Carl Rozatti (La Morada, CA) in the main
event.
Sun
City, California’s John Denver parlayed a second place finish behind Bobby
Hogerhuis (Chino, CA) at the last race into the point lead in the Sport Compact
Class. Aaron Knox (Corona, CA)
trails Denver by 20 points in the standings.
Saturday’s
display of dirt track dare will include qualifying for the Late Models with
heats and main events for all classes. B
mains will be used in larger classes as well.
Perris
Auto Speedway is located on the freeway close Lake Perris Fairgrounds
approximately one hour east of Los Angeles and one hour North of San Diego.
To get to the track, take the 215 freeway, exit on the Ramona Expressway
and go two miles east to the fairgrounds.
Saturday’s race on the
only half-mile clay oval in Riverside County will be preceded by Friday’s drag
racing action on the Diamond Valley Honda Street Legal Drag Strip.
The drag strip is also located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds.
Anyone with a valid driver’s license, registration and helmet is
eligible to race at the drag strip. Gates
at the drag strip open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:00 PM.
