USAC/CRA SPRINT CARS RETURN TO THE PAS ON SATURDAY FOR OUTDOOR CHANNEL SHOW!
by Scott Daloisio

(FEBRUARY 28, 2006, PERRIS, CA) After nearly a month off, race starved Southern California Sprint Car fans will get a chance to see their heroes in action when Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply presents the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars this Saturday night, March 4th, at Perris Auto Speedway.

Ventura California’s Cory Kruseman, a two-time Champion of the Budweiser Oval Nationals at The PAS, holds a one point advantage over defending Series Champion Damion Gardner (Concord, California) heading into Saturday’s race.  Kruseman last won in the series at final race of 2005 on November 19th at The PAS.  Gardner, who leads the series with 23 all-time wins, last won on November 11th at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Arizona.

Veteran Rip Williams of Yorba Linda, California won the 2006 PAS season opener on the first Saturday in February.  Gardner nearly passed the 49 year-old veteran at the checkered, but fell a half-car length short in another patented Perris Auto Speedway crowd pleasing main event finish.  Jesse Hockett of Warsaw, Missouri finished third with Kruseman fourth and rising star Mike Spencer of Temecula, California fifth.

The exciting racing at The PAS is well known among West Coast fans.  Saturday will offer a chance for the USAC/CRA brethren to spread the gospel as the race will be taped and shown around the nation on the Outdoor Channel’s “USAC Thunder” television show on April 1st.   The Outdoor Channel is available to more than 24.6 million USA subscriber homes nationwide via satellite and cable.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for us to expose the USAC/CRA Series, Perris Auto Speedway and all of the track and team sponsors to the rest of the country,” stated Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian.  “West Coast fans know of the great battles we see at every race.  Race fans around the nation will now see it as well.  This is a positive for everyone involved.”

Jack Arute, a face and voice long familiar to television audiences for his work in motorsports, will anchor the telecast.  In addition to motorsports, Arute is recognizable to fans of football, basketball, Winter X-Games and more.  His roots in auto racing run deep as he has been a competitor and his family has run the famous Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Connecticut since 1969.

Joining Arute will be color commentator Rob Klepper and pit reporter Brienne Pedigo.  Klepper is familiar to California sprint car fans as he was the voice of King’s Speedway in Hanford, California in 2002.  The former All-Star Circuit of Champions announcer will also do the live call at several USAC National events in 2006.  Pedigo, a graduate of New York University, has been raised around racing.  Her father Gary is a joint owner in the IRL’s Panther Racing Team.  She has commentated on auto racing and the Professional Bowler’s Association on ESPN.  In addition to her regular work on the “USAC Thunder” show, she is going to take a ride in Cory Kruseman’s two-seater sprint car on Saturday.

Saturday’s spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00 PM.  The side by side “sideways action” show will consist of qualifying, four heat races comprised of ten laps each, preliminary C & B mains and a 30-lap A main event.  Advance tickets are available by calling 1-800-595-4849.  You can also order advance tickets on the Internet at tix.com or perrisautospeedway.com.

Saturday’s race on the only half-mile clay oval in Riverside County will be preceded by Friday’s drag racing action on the Diamond Valley Automotive Group Honda – Mazda – Volkswagen Street Legal Drag Strip.  The drag strip is also located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds.  Anyone with a valid driver’s license, registration and helmet is eligible to race at the drag strip.  Gates at the drag strip open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:00 PM.

Perris Auto Speedway is located on the freeway close Lake Perris Fairgrounds approximately one hour east of Los Angeles and one hour North of San Diego.  To get to the track, take the 215 freeway, exit on the Ramona Expressway and go two miles east to the fairgrounds.
