July 29, 2006...Jake
Serven has been chomping at the bit this whole season and tonight it was his
race to win. Serven from
Lockford
,
CA
has finished in the top five several times at Chowchilla. He was number one
tonight.
Fifteen
wingless 360 sprints from NCMA, SCRA and several other clubs participated.
Heats were held and
Napa
’s David Goodwill took the first one. Serven,
Bobby Nichols, Gary Koster and Ed Amador finished the top five.
Heat II had Jerry Cisco, Rob Hammond, Keith Shipperd, Kent Stephens and
Mark Amador in the top five spots. An
incident during the cool down lap left “Gentleman” Jimmy Lavell with a
trashed front end. Lavell who is
always there to help everyone had help getting the new axel under the car and
running for the main. Larry Nelson
was not quite as lucky. This was
his first outing in several weeks after having a tough evening.
He went to hot lap and found he had no brakes.
That could have been dealt with but the rear end also presented a
problem. After having the car down
to the frame from his last go-round, he decided to make corrections before
trying again.
David
Goodwill looked like he is getting a handle on his new set up this year as he
started in last place for the Trophy Dash and had it won at the halfway point.
The
twenty lap Main Event had
Morgan Hill
’s Rob Hammond setting the pace with Bobby Nichols right beside him. Cisco and
Serven held up the next row and Koster started fifth.
Two cautions in the first five laps had
Hammond
still leading the way. Cisco and Serven were hanging right behind him, but
after a bobble, and not quite halfway, Serven was in the lead,
Hammond
was in second, Nichols, third and Cisco fourth.
Serven took the lead to the checkered flag.
Cisco made it back to second with
Hammond
in third. Goodwill and Koster
rounded out the top five. Enjoyable
racing that ended with a different twist when all the winners from the main
events were put into buses. Yes big
yellow (or whatever) buses and raced around the track.
This was certainly something to see!
Looked like snails making their way across the dirt.
There were a couple of passes, if you can believe that and lots of
enjoyment for all. Serven finished
the night,” I finally won my first race and had a blast just cruising around
in the bus.”
NCMA
will be running their next dirt race at Reno-Fernley Raceway on Saturday, August
12. This will also be a Select
Series race. If you would like more
