July 15, 2006...Gary Koster just likes Chowchilla or it likes him because
he sure knows how to make his way around the track taking his second win of
2006.
Two heats were held with hot action packed racing.
Northern California Modified (Sprint Car) Association was on the track
after getting through a 100 degree afternoon.
Track Promoter Tom Sagmiller spent the better part of his evening making
a decent surface for the sprints to run on.
Richard Harvey, Jr. managed to come from the middle of the pack to win
the first heat for owner Sam Davies. Ed
Amador brought his #1 Amador Farms sprinter in second.
The second heat had a little problem getting started as Keith Shipperd
and Jerry Cisco tried to take the green and missed it twice which allowed David
Goodwill in his Lito Auto Body racer and Jake Serven to bring them to the green taking it to the finish in just that order.
The Trophy Dash was set.
Amador and Serven had the front and Harvey and Goodwill had the back.
Serven made quick work out of it and grabbed the win.
Harvey was second. Amador
and Goodwill were in there kickin’ it and finished third and fourth.
A Twenty five lap main event was ready to start with the
line up just like the finish of the dash. Serven
and Harvey on the front, Amador and Goodwill in the second row.
Koster starting fifth. The
flag went green. Just a few laps
down and Cisco had a spin out for the only caution flag of the race.
Serven was still leading but Koster was already nipping on his heels.
Harvey was in second, Goodwill was third and Amador was giving him a run
for the position. Koster took the
first spot by lap five and was breathing clean air.
Serven was hanging on to second but Harvey was hungrier as he assumed the
position and finished the race there. Goodwill
and Amador were really working making everyone wonder who would finish third and
Amador finally got around Goodwill for third.
Serven managed to sneak into fourth and Goodwill rounded out the top
five. Jimmy Riddell and Kent
Stephens both of Modesto raced this evening for the first time with NCMA and did
a great job. Stephens has run
Sprint 100’s for eleven years and stepped into a “big boy” tonight. He did a great job and took it home in one piece.
Riddell has run sprints previously and also added to the race “show”.
Thanks, Guys!
NCMA will
return to Chowchilla Speedway on Saturday, July 29.
