June 24, 2006...Gary
Koster has proved more than once that he knows how to lead the pack and that was
how he finished the evening tonight, right in the front.
Chowchilla
Speedway is always exciting and with almost twenty two-barrel, 360 sprint cars
on the dirt it makes for a great evening of racing.
Three
heat races were run to set up the Main Event.
The first heat had a mix-up that sent Michael Zarevich, Rob Hammond and
Bobby Nichols scurrying to get sprints together for the main. Steven Williams
won, climbing back into a race car after having healed from injuries from the
last time he was in one. David
Goodwill was second. Heat two found
Ed Amador running away with it. He
just went from green to checkered without a problem.
Matt Streeter and Danny Olmstead grabbed first and second in the final
heat.
A
six car-six lap trophy dash ensued with Olmstead taking it.
With
an inversion that worked for Koster, he started on the pole.
Jake Serven on the outside. Zarevich,
T.C. Miller and Larry Nelson starting the top five.
Koster took the lead, and the race was on.
Just a few laps in and a couple of sprints got caught up and hauled off
the track. Koster didn’t miss a
lick.
Severn
stuck right with him. Olmstead was working to get around Serven , making it a
couple laps later. Olmstead was
working too hard to get around Koster. He
apparently tried a move that put him into a track tire, mangling Nelson’s
sprint car and causing Amador to get bumped by the monster sized tire.
Olmstead and Nelson were out. Amador
continued. Koster, Serven, Amador,
Goodwill and Hammond were the top five. Sometimes
aged experience outruns youthful exuberance!
NCMA
will be off July 4th weekend for family fun, but will return on the
dirt at Placerville Speedway, July 8. For
