June 16, 2006...Justin
Funkhouser pulled off the win at Silver Dollar Speedway this evening as he
grabbed the lead in a restart with only three laps remaining in this NCMA Select
Series race. The 22 year old
sophomore sprint driver was running second to NCMA’s David Goodwill throughout
the entire race and was able to gain the lead with just a few laps remaining.
The
evening started with almost forty 360 sprints trying to get into the main event.
Four
heats were held. Heat I had Gary Koster, Danny Olmstead, David Goodwill, and B.J.
Martin making their way to the “A” Main.
Heat
II had Tony Richards, Charlie Marrs, Justin Funkhouser, and Steve Stein to the
“A” Main.
Heat
III found Dan Simpson, Dave Hayes, Jr., Scott Holloway, and Greg Higgenbotham
claim their spots for the main and Heat IV had Jeremy Hawes, Bob Newberry, James
Postell and Terry Schank, Jr. secure their positions.
With
that accomplished, the “C” main brought Sean King, Taylor Simas, Larry
Nelson, and Dennis Fraser for a run in the “B”.
This turned into a real run for the money as everyone wished to transfer
and racing was even tougher than anything seen previously in the evening.
Before the end of that event, David Neutze, Jr. was having a hot time at
the “ole” track as he got spun around and his fuel line came loose.
Even before the human eye can see the flame, anyone around an alcohol
fire can feel it, Neutze was outta there in a New York minute and the crew at
Silver Dollar Speedway reacted perfectly. They
put out and cleared away the problem quickly and racing resumed.
The first five, Richard Crumley, Kenny Bair, John Anderson, Jay Youngman
and Don Emery assumed their positions and the Main event got underway.
After very few cautions and David Goodwill leading most of the race,
Funkhouser got the best of a restart and finished the last three laps in the
lead. B.J. Martin was second, Danny
Olmstead third, Goodwill finished fourth. Speaking
to Goodwill after the race he said,”We just didn’t lunge forward on the
restart.” And Bob Newberry
rounded out the top five.
NCMA
will be racing at Chowchilla Speedway Saturday, June 24 and at Placerville
Speedway for another Select Series race on July 8.
