April 25, 2006...Danny
Olmsted made a clean sweep of his first NCMA race this evening, taking his heat,
the trophy dash and the main event.
Olmsted
and Matt Streeter launched an attack at Chowchilla Speedway this evening that
must have pushed the rain away and made Northern California Modified (Sprint
car) Association open the season with a big bang.
More
than twenty sprinters showed up to make a very full field.
Racers showed up from all over including
Antioch
, CSRA from the
Sacramento
area and NCMA.
During
the course of the evening, three heats were run.
Streeter, from
Tracy
had the first one from lap one.
Sacramento
’s Jake Serven took the second, and Olmsted held the top spot in heat three.
The
trophy dash consisted of the top two from each heat; Olmsted started from the
pole and Streeter was shotgun. After jumping the start twice they were both sent
to the rear. Olmsted didn’t let
that stop him and had the lead at the end of lap one.
All said and done he still stood his ground and Streeter was second.
The
main event had Billy” the bullet” Macedo and Santa Clara’s Alan Clark at
the head of the pack, Larry Nelson,
and Modesto’s Ed Amador holding down the second row and Keith Shipard of
Pleasant Hill rounding out the top five starters.
Without one lap in the books,
Manteca
’s Michael Zarevich and Shannon Newton of Galt met in the middle of turns
three-four, putting Zarevich out for the evening.
Macedo held onto the lead with Nelson, Clark, Gary Koster and Streeter
working right behind him. Macedo
looked like he was holding on tight! Probably
too tight as he spun out and the pack got by him. At the halfway mark, Olmsted
had come from tenth to first with Streeter right behind him.
Nelson, Clark and Koster were not far behind.
One more late lap spin out by
Antioch
’s David Fraser and the first NCMA race for 2006 was in the books. Speaking
after the race, Olmsted and Streeter were teasing each other.
They share the same crew and worked on the race cars together.
Some kind of bet was made, Streeter said, “I guess he’ll be able to
buy a couple of back tires.” Streeter’s second place finish was not bad for
first time out in a sprint especially on his birthday. The next interesting note
is the next five sprinters were all over fifty years old and did not fall out of
their seats!!!
NCMA’s
next race will be their first asphalt outing to Lakeport Speedway, at Lakeport, CA.,
May 6. For further information and
