Henderson, KY (September 16,
2006) The Hoosier
Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will finish up the 2006 campaign with a two day
visit to Southeastern Indiana. The
Legendary Lawrenceburg Speedway will host the series on Friday night September
29th and again on Saturday night September 30th.
This will be the first time that the non-wing MSCS series will appear at
the Lawrenceburg Speedway. It
should be an exciting night for fans as drivers high in MSCS points will find
themselves in uncharted territory with valuable championship points at stake.
Friday
night’s 30 lap main for the MSCS Sprints pays $2,000 to win and serves as a
prelude to Saturday night’s Lawrenceburg Fall Classic Sprint Nationals which
will be sponsored by SK Construction. Twenty–two
cars will start the feature Friday and 24 will start Saturday’s feature event
which pays a whopping $10,000 to win. Saturday
night’s main event will go for 50 exciting laps. Saturday’s event has a rain date established for Sunday,
October 1st if needed.
Final details for the big two-day event are currently being worked out
through the joint efforts of Lawrenceburg Speedway Promoter Tom Wieck and MSCS
Series Director Barry Boone. Mini
Sprints and Modifieds will also race on Friday night and the Modifieds will also
run on Saturday. Saturday’s
Nationals will also include a special 10 lap Young Guns event sponsored by
Armstrong Farms plus another second special added event for Sprint
“Champions.” More information
will be made available on these two events as the date draws nearer.
This will be the third time that the MSCS series has participated in a
Nationals’ caliber event paying $10,000 to win.
The Hoosier Sprint Nationals at Tri-State Speedway in Southwestern
Indiana has gone to the checkers twice now with Kevin Briscoe and Daron Clayton
earning the titles in 2005 and 2006. Other
participants finishing in the top five on those two occasions to the west
included runner-ups Levi Jones and Shane Cottle as well as Jon Sciscoe, A.J.
Anderson, Kyle Cummins, Brady Short, Mat Neely, and Brandon Petty.
No driver managed to visit these impressive top five lists twice.
Kyle Cummins is currently tied for second in MSCS points with Chris
Windom. Alex Shanks is right where
he has been since joining the series in 2004 – leading the points.
The versatile, steady driver has an eye out for a win and Lawrenceburg
presents two chances. Shanks will
also have to protect a narrowing points lead over the two young guns.
The lead was at 48 going into the Mt. Vernon September 9 Illinois Sprint
Championship. Windom and Cummins
finished in the top five and cut 19 points from Shank’s lead.
The difference is only 29 points with the two events to go.
This race should be the supreme test. Back to back races, huge purse, MSCS drivers, Lawrenceburg
regulars, other top touring drivers, extra laps, and the MSCS National
Championship to be decided at the same time.
