Henderson,
KY. (Aug. 10) The Midwest Sprint Car Series will race at Tri-State Speedway
this Saturday night August 12th.
It will be the final solo appearance for the popular racing series at
Haubstadt this season. However on
Labor Day Weekend these same MSCS Extreme Racers will match skills with the USAC
National Sprint Car Series in the first ever USAC/MSCS Clash!
This weekend’s special program is a double-up Special event with the
MSCS Sprints shooting for a top prize of $1500, and the UMP Open Wheel Modifieds
aiming for their biggest purse of the season topping out at $1200..
The MSCS portion of the program will consist of a 25 lap feature.
The feature will be a true sprint race, the Saturday night traditional
distance at most short tracks. The
race will call for a simple strategy. Drivers
will strive to get to the front early and use those 800 horsepower, 410 cubic
inch engines to their fullest capacity. The
howl of the precision tuned engines will only be matched by the roar of approval
from the fans after the checkered flag.
The past two weeks eyes have been on Daron Clayton from Sikeston, MO.
Clayton’s driving talents have been paying big dividends.
He can now polish 4 foot trophies from both the Hoosier Sprint Nationals
and the Kentucky Sprint Championship. A
win at this Saturday night’s race would give the 22 year old driver three MSCS
feature wins in a row. Clayton’s
driving style is fearless. Brushing
the wall beyond the cushion that develops along the outer wall in the turns of a
dirt track just seems to make the yellow 92 even faster.
Two-time champion Alex Shanks continues to lead the MSCS National Points
by a narrow margin over two Gibson County, IN, drivers.
His teammate Hud Cone of Oakland City is currently second in success
markers and Kyle Cummins of Princeton has just moved into third spot in the
points. Cummins and Cone are
both running AFCO Shocks. AFCO is
one of MSCs’s valued sponsors
Veteran Jerry Ruble of Vincennes, IN, is now 4th in series
points. Ruble is second in overall
hard charger points. Ruble’s
entusiasm for racing shows in his every move on or off the track.
Matt Neely of Robinson, IL, still leads those Hard Charger Points
sponsored this year by Mike’s Motors of Clinton, IN.
Fifteen year old Illinois speedster Chris Windom is now fifth in a steady
climb up through the standings
Jeff Davis continues to lead the MSCS Rookie of the Year points battle.
Davis who hails from Pittsburg, IL, had his best run of the season last
weekend at Nebo, KY. Davis started
17th and finished 5th on a slick track that was perplexing
to some of the veterans. That
outstanding effort earned Davis the night’s Mike’s Motors Hard Charger
Award.
Engler Machine and Tool of Princeton, In, sponsors the MSCS Rookie of the
Year Program. Other drivers moving
up in the rookie standings after last week’s engagement
incude Patrick Bruns, Mark Potter, D.J. Ott, and Lee Stark.
The challenge continues!
