Henderson,
KY (July 24, 2006).
After several weeks of inactivity due to unforeseen changes to the
announced schedule, the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series returns to
action with 8 big events over the span of the next 10 weeks.
First up in this busy, expanded stage of the 2006 schedule is the MSCS
Hoosier Sprint Nationals at Tri-State Speedway on Saturday night July 29th.
Along with the Hoosier Sprint National’s title, the winner will pick up
a super-sized winning paycheck in the amount of $10,000.
Kevin Briscoe earned that first $10,000 check at last year’s inaugural
Hoosier Sprint Nationals. It was
his biggest payday in a driving career that has spanned 20 years.
To date it was and is still is the biggest payday for a Hoosier Tire
Midwest Sprint Car Series feature winner.
Fans in attendance last year will remember that Levi Jones was the
runner-up to Briscoe after an all out effort from both drivers.
An always’ fast Jon Sciscoe was third.
Kyle Cummins drove a spirited race in which he led 28 laps and ultimately
finished fourth. Despite the field
staying in close formation, especially the first four cars, only one caution
flag was needed. That was for a car
coasting to a stop. The second
annual Hoosier Sprint Nationals does promise to be just as exciting.
In 2005 thirty-seven drivers took the ultimate challenge that includes no
time trials, MSCS race-for-it heats, and a big 50 lap feature with the pole
position shrouded in fan frenzy. The
tow to Haubstadt does have certain guarantees.
The quarter mile surface will be race ready, the fans will be poised and
vocal, and the prestige in sprint car racing’s winners circle is incredible. MSCS officials are looking forward to the event with an eye
on an average car count of 43 sprints per race this season. Fans are more likely to notice that this race with its’
high dollar purse is going to attract more highly financed teams.
Plus the confidence level of drivers entering this event will be even
higher. Sprint car racing will have
that magic touch once again!
MSCS title chasers will have to face on-comers and newcomers.
Currently as many as15 MSCS drivers are mathematically in a position to
be in first place in the point standings upon leaving the races after a perfect
night at Haubstadt on July 29. One
of those is rookie Jeff Davis who trails points’ leader Alex Shanks by just 62
points. Davis missed the first show
but overall is averaging just 4 points less a night than the two- time champion.
Both drivers deliver a solid Illinois punch to the starting lineup each
race.
If that Hoosier Sprint Nationals’ final lineup works out to incude the
current top ten MSCS drivers, the starting ranks would include Shanks, Hud Cone,
Kevin Briscoe, Jerry Ruble, Kyle Wissmiller, Kyle Cummins, Jonathan Vennard,
Brady Short, Chase Stockon, and Chris Windom.
This is already a 3-D lineup – drivers who will run 3 deep!
MSCS Series Director Barry Boone is already at work planning the
ceremonial aspects of a fan friendly race.
On hand as a special guest and Grand Marshall for the Hoosier Tire MSCS
Hoosier Sprint Nationals this year will be the great Indy Car and USAC Midget
driver Mel Kenyon. Kenyon will
arrive early to meet and greet fans and is invited to send the drivers on their
way by waving the green flag to start the event.
The honor could not be bestowed on a more deserving driver – a true,
living legend in open wheel racing. It
is a complete package-the race, the drivers, and a legend to inspire them!
