March 26, 2005...Henderson, KY...The
first race of the 2006 season for the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series
will be held at the Action Track in Terre Haute, Indiana on Saturday April 8th.
It will also double as the first event to be held at the famed half-mile
facility this season. Promoter Jamie Reed has a full card in the offering for race
fans with the UMP Modifieds and area Super Stocks taking part in a triple
header.
This will be the fifth annual Spring Fling, sponsored this year by Wabash
County Good Will and Clay, Owen,Vigo Solid Waste.
The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series drivers will do battle in a 25
lap feature which pays $1500 to win and $200 to start.
This early spring race at Terre Haute is scheduled some three weeks in
advance of the remainder of the 14 race MSCS season.
The race has always attracted a majority of the regular MSCS regulars as
well as a number of the best all around non-wing competitors in the country.
In the last six appearances that the MSCS series has made at the Action
Track, six different drivers have claimed victory.
Last year’s April event was won by Dave Darland.
Darland won two of the first 4 MSCS features held in 2005.
Kevin Briscoe was the only other driver to post two 2005 feature wins in
this competitive series.
The MSCS enters into season six under the guidance of Series Director
Barry Boone, one of the three new owners. According
to MSCS Information Director Eldon Butcher nearly 30 drivers have already
signified intentions to race under the Hoosier Tire MSCS banner this season.
Among those is two time and defending champion Alex Shanks of Marion,
Illinois. Shanks will team with
another former MSCS Champion Hud Cone of Oakland City, Indiana, to form a
two-car team for sprint car owner Jerry Baker.
Year to year MSCS title contenders Jerry Ruble, Chase Stockon, and Dale
Christian are expected to be in action regularly as well as 2005 Rookie of the
Year Gary Hayden. Five drivers have already registered as candidates for the
2006 Engler Machine & Tool Rookie of the Year honors.
Most of these drivers have previous experience but not with MSCS.
Overall they will add credibility to an ever-strengthening field of
drivers. This non wing, wheel to
wheel style of racing is racing in its’ most extreme form.
The pits open at 3 o’clock, grandstand gates at 5 o’clock, and the
race will begin at 7 p.m. Visit www. mscssprints. com for more information on this
race, the Hoosier Tire MSCS series, and to review the complete, newly revised
