November 7, 2005...Sam Stockon, the founder and
previous owner of the Midwest Sprint Car Series, has announced that the 2005
points fund checks were mailed out to all eligible drivers on November 1st.
Checks placed in the mail cover awards for both the MSCS Season Points Chase and
the special "Route 41 Shootout."
The top money winner was Alex Shanks of Marion, Illinois. Shanks took top honors
in both point pursuits. The 31 year old MSCS veteran drove for Jerry Baker, who
owns and fields the Baker Auto and Truck Salvage Sprinter. Shanks raced a
Stealth Chassis powered by a Cummins Race Engine.
Jerry Ruble of Vincennes, Indiana, also had an outstanding year.
Ruble was second in the MSCS overall series' points and third in the Route 41
Shootout. Ten of his 13 years behind the wheel have been in the seat of a sprint
car. Jerry was also presented with the "Driver's Sportsmanship Award."
In addition Ruble received a Hoosier Racing Tire jacket for his 100%
participation in the series. Nelson Ruble, Jerry's father, was selected as the
Top MSCS Crew Chief for 2005.
Chase Stockon of Sullivan, Indiana, completed another
successful season campaign by placing third in MSCS Points and close second in
the Route 41 Shootout. The 17 year old driver also won the Hard Charger Award
for 2005 by gaining the most spots in the feature events during the race
programs each night of the season. Chase also received a Hoosier Racing Tire
jacket for his 100% participation.
Gary Hayden of Coatesville, Indiana, received the coveted
2005 MSVS Rookie of the Year Award which was sponsored by Engler Machine and
Tool. The former super stock and modified driver turned his first season in the
sprints into a 4th place overall finish in the points. Hayden will also receive
a jacket courtesy of Hoosier tire for 100% participation.
In addition arrangements have been made for Alex Shanks,
Chase Stockon, and Gary Hayden to receive their trophies and plaques when they
are honored at the annual HARF Banquet in Indianapolis on January 22nd. Bell
Helmets and equipment will give contingency certificates to those points awards
winners that displayed their decals on their sprinters.
