Lawrenceburg, Indiana 9/3/06...Seymour Indiana's Jason Knoke captured the lead on the white flag lap at The
Lawrenceburg Speedway on Saturday night, bringing home the hardware for the
first time in the 2006 season. The Law Brothers #77 entry was chased to
the checkers by #99K Kerry Kinser, #31 Jamie Williams, #11 Brent Beauchamp and
#75 Casey Shuman.
Knoke, who has many years of dirt track racing under his belt, returned from a
retirement for the 2005 season, where he finished 3rd in Lawrenceburg
Championship points and garnered one Feature victory. Knoke, who currently
sits securely in 4th place in the 2006 Championship points chase, has
announced that this will be his last year in Sprint Car competition.
Before the races, Knoke commented, "I am now married and have other
responsibilities, but I'm still here because it was important to me that I
exit the sport on my terms, as my first retirement was not. It has been
an up and down season, but more than anything I want to get a win on my way
out."
On Saturday night, Jason Knoke did just that.
"Jake The Snake" started out the evening by securing the heat
race win, allowing him to redraw for Feature starting position, where he would draw
5th place on the starting grid. Heat races were also won by 4th position
Feature starter, #75 Casey Shuman, and outside front row Feature starter,
#11 Brent Beauchamp.
When the green flag dropped for the Feature event, it was 15 year old, 2 time
winner in the 2006 season, Brent Beauchamp, who would jump to the early lead.
Beauchamp would gain a comfortable advantage over the runner up spots,
securing the lead by several car lengths for the first 17 laps. By
lap 18, #31 Jamie Williams would close the gap and would take over
the lead on lap 19 after Beauchamp missed his marks, allowing the rookie
competitor to slip by into the top spot. With Williams in the point
position, Knoke would also sneak past Beauchamp for 2nd on lap 21,
while the #99K of Kerry Kinser, who had come from the B-Main, silently
mounted his own charge to secure the 3rd spot by lap 23. With two laps
to go, the #31 of Williams would miss his own mark, and in the same fashion
Williams had taken over the lead earlier, Knoke would capitalize, with Kinser
following Knoke through the hole, relegating early race leaders, #11 of
Beauchamp to 4th at the checkers and #31 of Williams to 3rd.
