August 25, 2006 –
On Saturday August 26th Lawrenceburg Speedway will host the $3000 to win
Dick Gaines Memorial race, where fans and racers will come together to
witness and take part in fierce competition honoring one of
Lawrenceburg Speedway's finest sons, the legendary Dick Gaines.
Dick Gaines a multi-time Lawrenceburg Speedway Track Champion, was
a driver who first stepped into a race car at the age of 16, and had a
remarkable and unmatched career spanning 3 decades. Winning hundreds
and hundreds of features in Sprint Cars across the nation, made Dick Gaines
one of the most celebrated drivers in history. Gaines, a 1992 National
Sprint Car Hall Of Fame inductee, remains the only driver in history to have
won the famed Knoxville Nationals and Little 500 racing events. Gaines
passed away in the winter of 2000.
Since it's inception 3 years ago, The Dick Gaines Memorial race
has boasted some of the best action seen in Indiana dirt track racing.
In 2004, the then rookie and now USAC star and Chip Ganassi Racing
development driver, Bryan Clauson, captured the victory after a feverish
battle with Dick's son and current Non-Wing stand out, Dickie Gaines.
Last year, a resident of Dick's hometown and son of one of Dick's former car
owners, Kevin Briscoe, secured the emotional victory. This year, $3000
as the winner's share promises the best of the dirt track warriors will be
in attendance to duke it out for the prestigious race honors.
Can Lawrenceburg Speedway stand outs Tony Beaber or Jason Knoke take
the prize? Will a hot shot invader such as Jon Stanbrough or AJ Anderson
bring home the honors? Can a young gun such as Hunter Schuerenberg or
Chris Windom outwit the veterans? Will Dickie Gaines finally capture the
elusive victory in the race honoring his beloved father? Join us at The
Lawrenceburg Speedway on Saturday August 26th to find out. Log on to www.lawrenceburgspeedway.com
for ticket and additional information.
