July 16, 2006....The crowd at The Lawrenceburg Speedway was abuzz on
Saturday night with anticipation of the once a year Non-Wing Sprint Car
lover's extravaganza, The United States Auto Club's (USAC) Indiana Sprint Week
event to be contested at The Lawrenceburg Speedway on Thursday July 20th. This
race is particularly special to The Lawrenceburg Speedway, as it also marks
the memorial race for a beloved Indiana racer and former Lawrenceburg winner,
Robbie Stanley.
Indiana Sprint Week, a week that boasts 7 races in 9 days is the "must
see" event for all Open Wheel fans. The unique atmosphere of the
elite USAC National touring racers competing on the turf of the hard nosed
Indiana local scene, creates the toughest and most intense competition often
seen in all of Sprint Car racing. Thursday night's event at The
Lawrenceburg Speedway promises to be one of the most exciting bullring
showdowns yet, with both USAC National drivers and many of the tough locals,
already having boasted wins in recent years at the 1/4 mile oval.
USAC National driver, currently running 3rd in USAC National Sprint Car
Points, 17 year old Bryan Clauson, has in the past considered
Lawrenceburg Speedway his home track, despite it's 120 mile distance from his
Noblesville, Indiana home. Clauson, who was recently signed to a
Target Chip Ganassi Racing Driver Development program, is excited about his
upcoming return to The Lawrenceburg Speedway.
"I've always enjoyed racing at Lawrenceburg, even the atmosphere and fan
interaction at a regular race is special, and whenever the 'big shows' come
in, it gets even better. I'm really excited to return to Lawrenceburg in the
#67 Bullet Mopar powered Keith Kunz Motorsports entry, as Lawrenceburg is
the track I cut my teeth on, so to speak, when I was driving for C&A
Motorsports. It is going to be an exciting USAC Indiana Sprint week
show, that is for sure, as I know first hand how tough the Lawrenceburg
local competition can be", remarked Clauson.
Local competition like Lawrenceburg Speedway 2005 Sprint Car Track
Champion, Brandon Petty, who can boast double digit wins over the past season
and a half at The Lawrenceburg Speedway, or Jamestown, Indiana's Jon
Stanbrough, who not only has two wins on the season at Lawrenceburg, including
one in USAC competition on April 22nd, but also has already picked off a USAC
Indiana Sprint Week victory at The Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana,
are likely the kind of competition Clauson was referring to. Also in the mix
are tough weekend warriors like current Lawrenceburg Speedway points leader,
Tony Beaber, who already has a victory on the season at The Lawrenceburg
Speedway. Beaber, who has come on strong of late, after having tweaked
and finessed his self-built Beaberbuilt race chassis, also looks forward to
the USAC Indiana Sprint Week event at The Lawrenceburg Speedway.
"I love coming to Lawrenceburg, that's why we tow 4 hours to get here
every weekend from Gibsonburg, Ohio. The weekly shows are always an absolute
blast, but getting the opportunity to test our skills against the USAC
National drivers, nothing beats it. Alot of us [weekly drivers] race in USAC
competition from time to time, but when USAC comes to Lawrenceburg,
it's kind of like they are coming to 'our house'. While we might not
necessarily dominate, we definitely have a lot of pride in this being 'our
track', and I think it brings out the best in all of us who race here on a
weekly basis. I'm pumped and cannot wait for Thursday", says Tony
Beaber, driver of the #3T Alan Toth owned entry.
Promoter of The Lawrenceburg Speedway, Tom Wieck, commented, "Sprint
Car racing at it's best is USAC's Indiana Sprint Week competition, plain and
simple. We continue to be very proud to be a host of one of these
prestigious events, and always look forward to welcoming a crowd from all
over the country, who we encourage to come early and take advantage of
the ample parking and camping facilities that The Speedway and Fairgrounds
have to offer. If the early season USAC race we had here at
the track is any indication of what is in store for us this week, with it's edge
of your seat 4-wide action, the USAC Indiana Sprint Week event is
going to be an absolute barn burner this year. I simply cannot
wait."
