May 20, 2006 –
On Saturday, May 20th, the #11 Sprint Car driven by 15 year old Brent
Beauchamp, who is in his sophomore season of Sprint Car racing, would make
it's rookie debut in Victory Lane at The Lawrenceburg Speedway. Beauchamp
would capture his first career Sprint Car Victory in a thriller, leading
fellow Young Guns, #44 Ryan Pace and #0 Broc Burton to the podium.
At the drop of the green flag, veteran Derek Scheffel would jump to the early
lead in the #9 Hurst Brothers Sprint Car entry. On lap 5, 2005 Lawrenceburg
Speedway Sprint Car Track Champion, Brandon Petty, driving the #26 Sprint Car
owned by Tyler Pearce, would take over the 4 time Bloomington Speedway Track
Champion of Scheffel. Young Gun, #44 Ryan Pace, would make his presence known
a few laps later, passing several cars to line himself up in the second
position behind Petty. Petty, Pace and Scheffel would duke it out for
the top spots, as 7th place starter, Brent Beauchamp, was quietly positioning
himself in the top 5, and the #0 of Broc Burton was mounting an incredible
charge from his 19th place starting position.
With 5 laps to go, leader Brandon Petty, would suddenly pull off of the race
track with mechanical problems, allowing Ryan Pace to inherit the lead, with
Scheffel, who had been hanging on to a fading race car, in tow.
Beauchamp and Burton would capitalize on Scheffel's handling problems,
taking over the second and third positions with 2 laps to go. On the white
flag lap, 15 year old Beauchamp would pass Pace for the top spot, ultimately
taking the checkers in an emotional victory, with Pace, Burton and the
#57 Paul Hazen entry of Billy Puterbaugh Jr., and Scheffel rounding out
the top 5.
Holding true to it's reputation, The Lawrenceburg Speedway, which has become
known as "the cradle" for up and coming drivers, hosted several
other young up-and-comers in addition to the top finishers in the Feature
Event. Participating on Saturday were the #7C of 14 year old
Dakoda Armstrong, who captured his 2nd heat race victory and 2nd top 10 finish in
only 3 starts at The Speedway, and 2005 Speedrome Ford Focus Champion, #31
Jamie Williams, whose Saturday night appearance at The Lawrenceburg Speedway
marked his second ever start in Sprint Car competition. Fellow Ford Focus
competitors, Rose-Hulman Institute student, Ronnie Wuerdeman, continued
to campaign his rookie season at The Lawrenceburg Speedway in the #53 Turner
entry, while 19 year old Kyle Robbins debuted the #17R for the 2006 season.
Other Young Guns in the stable Saturday night included the #17B
of Brett Burdette, a 17 year old rookie Sprint Car competitor, who had racing
great, Rusty McClure, turning wrenches for the evening, and the #23S of Kyle
Simon, a teenager who captured a victory in 2005 at Waynesfield
Motorsports Park in one of his first ever appearances in a Sprint Car.
Next weekend, on Saturday, May 27, these Young Guns will be put to the
ultimate test when The Sheriff, Jon Stanbrough, and his veteran comrades come
to town for the 3rd leg of the King Of Indiana Sprint Series (K.I.S.S.)
showdown. Stanbrough already owns two victories in the early season at The
Lawrenceburg Speedway, and is undefeated in K.I.S.S. competition.
