April 16, 2006 –
A packed house at The Legendary Lawrenceburg Speedway on Saturday night was the
audience, and 51 fellow Sprint Car drivers were the supporting cast to what has
quickly become the most exciting spectacle on dirt; "The Jon And Dickie
Show". With only three races in the state of Indiana in the books for 2006,
Jon Stanbrough and Dickie Gaines have been the stars of these shows, waging epic
battles of veteran skill to the delight of fans and awe of competitors.
Stanbrough and Gaines began their "performances" last weekend at
The Terre Haute Action Track, where they would dice and slice for the lead,
before both falling victim to their charges, making contact with one another,
and ending their bids for the win. "The Jon And Dickie Show" would
resume on Friday, April 14th at The Bloomington Speedway, where the duo would
once again find themselves in the top two spots, battling for the win. Gaines
would go on to take that round at Bloomington Speedway, but in unrelenting
fashion, Stanbrough would come back last night at The Lawrenceburg Speedway to
even the score, claiming the victory in one of the most exciting feature events
in recent memory.
Regular USAC competitor, Mat Neely, took the early lead at Lawrenceburg
Speedway on Saturday, April 15th, but it wasn't long before Dickie Gaines
mounted a charge on the cushion, to make the move on Neely to take over the top
spot. Gaines, The 2003 Lawrenceburg Track Champion, appeared to be on path to
pull off the double victory on the weekend, however, "The Silent
Gasser", Jon Stanbrough, would not be denied. Stanbrough, whose crafty
choice of racing line, had already narrowed Gaines' lead, took advantage of a
rare bobble of Gaines', to put himself right on the back bumper of Gaines,
setting the stage for round 3 of "The Jon And Dickie Show".
In front of a energy filled crowd, Gaines and Stanbrough raced wheel to
wheel, with Stanbrough ultimately stealing the top spot from Gaines with a hand
full of laps to go. The side by side competition continued between Gaines and
Stanbrough, with the intensity allowing the hard charging Jon Sciscoe, who had
come from the 13th starting position, to put himself in the mix. Sciscoe would
challenge on the bottom side, as Gaines and Stanbrough swapped the lead several
times on the top. Despite Gaines reclaiming the lead from Stanbrough at the
flagstand of the white flag lap, The Fox Brothers #53 pilot, Jon Stanbrough,
finished off the job, bringing home the checkered flag.
Next weekend, visit the Lawrenceburg Speedway to see if Gaines and Stanbrough
will continue their critically acclaimed performance of "The Jon And Dickie
Show", as the track will host the United States Auto Club (USAC) National
Sprint Car Series on Saturday, April 22nd. Log on to
