May 7, 2006...John Soares Jr. of Oval Motorsports has announced that they
have decided to cease operation of Kings Speedway located in Hanford, CA.
This difficult decision has been based mainly on lack of participants at the
Speedway.
Oval Motorsports tried offering incentives such as larger
purses to attract competitors but their efforts have not been successful.
The economic realities are that without race cars on the track, the fans will
not attend the races. Without fan support, it is difficult to obtain
sponsorship for the Speedway. Successful operation requires several key
components to succeed and without them, it simply will not work.
John, along with General Manager Mike McCluney, would like
to thank all of those who have helped try to revive Kings Speedway, including
the Kings County Fair Board. We thank all of those competitors and fans
who did attend and wish them success in their racing activities.
Competitors who have race earnings due to them or who have purchased track
memberships will have a check mailed to them.
Oval Motorsports will continue to promote races at Antioch
Speedway, which it has been doing for the past 8 years.
