October 1, 2006 - On Nov. 11th 2006 Ventura Raceway will host
the inaugural Jim Kierce Memorial, Super Senior invitational.
USAC has its
Wags Dash for the lower funded guys and now the VRA Seniors (60ish and older)
have the Jim Kierce Super Senior invitational.
This race will
be a special event on a night that the seniors will be running their last race
of season.
The VRA senior
division has been a huge success at Ventura in the past few years drawing around
20 to 25 cars per week, and producing existing close racing for the fans all by
drivers over the age of 45. It seemed that each week, it was Wiley Miller, Bob
Alderman, Ron Bach and Bruce Douglas running up front and a hand full of 60+
guys making up the rest of the field.
Kevin Kierce
saw a need to give these older drivers a fair chance, and thought it was a
perfect sort of thing to put his fathers name on.
The Jim Kierce
Super Senior Invitational will work A LOT like the Wags dash in a since that it
will be by invitation and all the money will come from donations by the fans,
and corporate sponsors. And the line up will put the fastest guys at the back.
“We should
be able to make it $1,000. or so to win and $150 or so just to start” says
Kevin.
Anyone wishing
to contribute to the purse, help in organizing, has any ideas, or even be a
corporate sponsor can find Kevin at the track, or reach him via e-mail at
