PLACERVILLE
,
CA
– August 13, 2006... Placerville Speedway hosted a special night of racing to Placerville
Speedway on Saturday, August 12. More than 80 cars gathered in the pit area
for the race that includes the mighty midgets of the Bay Cities Racing
Association along with the wingless midget lites, the wingless spec sprint
cars and the speedway pure stocks.
In the BCRA Midget event, John Sarale of
Stockton
won the 25-lap feature event. Sarale shared in celebrations with Sam Corso
of Ripon who won the midget lite feature event. Darrell Hanestad of Clayton
posted his sixth win of the season in the wingless sprint cars and veteran
driver Burney McClure of
Nevada
City
won the Pure Stock race.
In the midget division, Sarale started fourth in the event. When the
green flag flew the early lead went to Garratt Boydon of
Santa Cruz
who started on the pole. Ryan Kaplan of
Chico
took the lead from Boydon on the fourth lap of the event and was joined by
Sarale in a hard fought battle for the lead that saw both drivers swap the
position several times throughout the event.
In the waning laps of the event, Kaplan maintained a lead of several
car lengths until the combination of lapped traffic and vibrating right rear
wheel slowed him and allowed Sarale to move in on the leader one again.
Sarale went to the outside of the fourth turn to steal the lead just after a
restart near the 20 lap mark. At the finish line Sarale was followed by Doug
Lippencott, Todd Miller, Rob Russell and Jim Reep.
In the Midget Lite division, Corso started seventh. After the initial
green flag was followed by a red the second attempt at a start saw Corso
advance into the lead as early as the second lap. With nine laps complete
Corso worked his way into lapped traffic and maintained a healthy lead of
several car lengths over the field.
At the checkered flag Corso earned his first
Placerville
win. He was followed across the line by Chris Glass. Richard Bailey, Scott
Kinney and Brian Corso.
The wingless sprint car feature event began with pole sitter Sparky
Howard of Santa Rosa taking the lead from the pole position. At the halfway
point of the race Howard advanced into lapped traffic and was being chased
down by Darrell Hanestad of Clayton who started 12th.
After making several attempts at passing Howard, Hanestad made a
succesfull pass on the 16th lap following a restart to steal the
lead. At the checkered flag Hanestad was followed by Howard, Justin
Funkhouser, Matt Streeter and Jerry Kobza.
The Pure Stock feature event saw an abundance of crashing, spinning
and rough driving on Saturday night. The excessive caution periods forced
track officials to call the race short with just 14-laps complete. Joe
Olshowka of Marysville took the initial lead of the race. On the sixth lap
McClure moved into the lead position and maintained it all the way to the
checkered flag where he was trailed by point leader Tom Tilford who advanced
from fifth place, Jeff Olshowka, Brian Bucholz and Kris Wirth.
Next weekend Placerville Speedway will host two big days of events
beginning on Saturday with the annual Kids Night sponsored by the Mountain
Democrat Newspaper. Sunday the Placerville Police officers Association will
present the 33rd annual Hangtown Destruction Derby at the
fairgrounds. For further information visit www.johnpadjenmotorsports.com.
