CHICO, CA (6-23-06) - Teenage driving sensation Taylor Simas drove
the race of his life to win his first non-wing sprint car main event at Chico
sponsored by Joe Hunt Magnetos. Simas, who spent his younger years racing
during the winter in his outlaw go-kart underneath the Silver Dollar Pavilion
where he won a driving championship, has looked really good so far this year
in his rookie year. All of his and his family's hard work culminated on Friday
when he led the final 11 laps to win the main event. On lap four he took the
lead from Charlie Williams. Six laps later Williams night ended when a car
spun him around and he crashed into another car.
Two drivers on the move were
Matt Streeter and Bob Newberry. Streeter started eighth but by lap six was
into second. Newberry, the point leader, started 12th and in two laps he was
fourth. From there he battled back and forth with Danny Olmstead and B.J
Martin. Streeter applied pressure late in the race but it was the teenager
Simas who showed no signs of nervousness. At the checkered it was Simas,
Streeter, Olmstead, Newberry and Martin.
