KNOXVILLE, IOWA (December 13, 2006) - The late Fred Brownfield,
founder of both the Northern Sprint Tour for winged 360-cubic-inch sprint cars
and the National Sprint Tour for winged 410's, has posthumously been named the
recipient of the "Outstanding Contribution to the Sport Award" by all
three voting panels of the North American Sprint Car Poll. According to poll
founder and National Sprint Car Museum director Tom Schmeh, "The poll's
Outstanding Contribution Award is the museum foundation's highest honor for
current achievers in the sport, as it is voted on by industry insiders from the
360-, 410-cubic-inch, and non-winged sprint car divisions. Fred, who was our
'360' Promoter of the Year in 2001 and a nominee for this Outstanding
Contribution Award in 2005, truly has had a positive impact upon the whole of
our sport through his leadership role with both NST series prior to his tragic
death at his own Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington, this past
summer."
