USAC SPRINTS, MIDGETS HEADED FOR LAS VEGAS IN 2007
|
October 29,
2006 –
Officials of Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the United States Auto Club have announced the addition of the USAC/CRA Sprint and USAC Western Midget Series to the 2007 calendar of events at the 1/2-mile dirt LVMS oval.
“USAC is honored that LVMS recognizes the supreme competitiveness and excitement of our series,” said USAC President/CEO Rollie Helmling. “We look forward to returning to Las Vegas for what we expect to be signature events for our participants.”
USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and Dirt Late Models will share events on Thursday, March 8 and Friday, March 9, the weekend of NASCAR’s Nextel Cup appearance at LVMS. The USAC/CRA Sprints and USAC Western Midgets will appear in the fall on a date yet to be announced.
“We are excited about this next phase of racing on our half-mile dirt track,” said LVMS general manager Chris Powell. “USAC and the Dirt Late Models have seen their popularity soar over the past few years and we’re confident our fans will love seeing a new brand of racing at our dirt facility.’
USAC racing in Las Vegas dates back to 1959 when Fred Lorenzen won a 147-mile Stock Car race at Las Vegas Park. In the ensuing years, a total of 70 USAC races have been staged in Nevada, with 31 of those in Las Vegas. Lady driver Destiney Hays won USAC’s last race at LVMS, a Sprint race on the paved Bullring, in 2004. The last USAC race on the 1/2-mile dirt track was a 30-lap Sprint in 1998 won by Tony Elliott.
Ticket information for all events at the dirt track is available by calling the LVMS ticket office at 1-800-644-4444 or by logging on to
