October 23,
2006 –
Only one point separates Damion Gardner and Cory Kruseman in their continuing battle for the 2006 USAC/CRA Sprint Car Championship! They will square off again Saturday night at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway as one of America’s most hotly-contested driving titles accelerates in its closing stages. Saturday night’s race will be the 100th in USAC/CRA Sprint Car history.
Kruseman closed the point gap with a fourth-place finish behind winner Tony Jones in last Saturday night’s “Legends of Ascot Night” 25-lapper at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. Gardner was 10th in that race after narrowly missing his 17th fast qualifying time of the season. Levi Jones, USAC’s defending National Sprint Car Champion, edged Gardner for the fast time, then finished second in the feature.
Tony Jones led the final seven laps to win the Perris main event over Levi Jones, Danny Sheridan, Kruseman and Mike Spencer. Rip Williams led the first four laps and Sheridan led the next 14. The victory was Jones’ fifth in his last 11 Perris starts.
A 30-lap feature is on tap this Saturday at Ventura.
The USAC National and USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series combine for back-to-back “tripleheaders” Nov. 2-4 and Nov. 9-11 at Perris, Calif. and Phoenix, Ariz. respectively.
