September 11, 2006...Mike Spencer of Temecula, Calif. returns to Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway Saturday night with a purpose: to score a victory that eluded him two weeks ago. A 30-lap feature is on tap at the 1/2-mile dirt oval as the exciting USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series continues to entertain.
Spencer won last Saturday’s 30-lapper at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway but was relegated to ninth two weeks ago at Perris when his car was re-positioned due to an unauthorized tire change en route to an apparent victory. His Ventura victory, which spectacularly came on the final lap in his Murrieta Development/Spenco Machine TCR/RC, has him third in the new series standings behind point leader Damion Gardner and Cory Kruseman.
Gardner and Kruseman, both victims of spins at Ventura, finished 11th and eighth respectively and Gardner’s point lead stands at 23 going into this Saturday’s race. Gardner led the first 13 laps at Ventura, then Matt Mitchell took over and had things in command until the last lap.
Mitchell finished second ahead of Tony Jones, Josh Ford and Rodney Argo.
