August 7, 2006...Damion Gardner and Cory Kruseman will continue their battle for the 2006 USAC/CRA Sprint Car title Aug. 19 when the series resumes at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. Gardner leads Kruseman by only five points, regaining the top spot following Saturday night’s race at Perris won by Tony Jones.
Jones, of Corona, Calif., led the final five laps of Saturday night’s 30-lapper at The PAS in his Alexander Trucking/La Villa Restaurant DRC after passing Gardner for the lead. Gardner finished second ahead of Danny Sheridan, fast qualifier Mike Spencer and Evan Suggs.
Kruseman and Gardner traded the lead back and forth before Kruseman’s engine expired, leaving Kruseman with the five-point deficit he faces going into the August 19 contest.
