July 3, 2006 –
Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif. bolted into the USAC/CRA Sprint Car point lead Saturday night and will have three weeks to enjoy it as the series takes a “hiatus,” scheduled to return to action July 22 at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
Kruseman finished fourth in last Saturday night’s 40-lapper at the 1/2-mile dirt PAS oval, trailing Tony Jones, Mike Spencer and Rip Williams to the checkered flag. That left Kruseman with a 17-point lead over Damion Gardner, who encountered mechanical problems at the start of Saturday’s race and finished 20th.
Jones, of Corona, Calif., led all 40 laps in his La Villa Restaurant/Alexander Trucking Stinger/RC and is now fourth in the new points behind Spencer.
Charles Davis Jr. posted the fastest qualifying time for Saturday’s race, while Gardner, whose fast qualifying efforts have been extraordinary, was fifth fastest.
