May 1, 2006..The USAC/CRA Sprint Cars are idle this weekend but return to action May 13 in the “Sokola Classic,” which will visit the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway for the first time in its six-year history. The race honors the memory of former USAC and CRA Sprint Car Supervisor Gary Sokola and his son Mark.
Cory Kruseman, who will travel East with the USAC National Sprint Car Series this weekend, will return to Perris May 13 with a nine-point lead over defending series titlist Damion Gardner as a result of Saturday night’s Perris race won by Charles Davis Jr.
Davis, of Buckeye, Ariz., led a 1-2 Tony Smiley team “sweep” at the 1/2-mile dirt Perris oval, leading teammate Rickie Gaunt to the checkered flag. Davis led all 30 laps to win the race over Gaunt, Danny Sheridan, Gardner and Tony Jones. Gardner, for the seventh time this season, was again the fastest qualifier!
