February 6, 2006..Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif. continues to lead the 2006 USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series standings despite a fourth-place finish in Saturday afternoon’s 30-lap feature at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
Kruseman emerged from Saturday’s race with a slim one-point lead over defending series champion Damion Gardner of Concord, Calif. going into a Feb. 18 race at Perris. Gardner finished second to race winner Rip Williams in the Perris 30-lapper after posting his second fastest qualifying effort of the young season.
Williams, of Yorba Linda, Calif., ranks sixth in the new points after his win Saturday, the 102nd of his Sprint car career. Trailing Williams and Gardner to the checkered flag were Jesse Hockett, Kruseman and Mike Spencer. Williams took the lead in his Sharon Jory/Weld Wheels Stinger/Shaver from defending USAC National Sprint Car Champion Levi Jones on the second lap and led the rest of the way.
Hockett, of Warsaw, Mo., was named the race’s “hard charger” after coming from 16th starting position to finish third. Hockett ranks fifth in the new standings behind third-ranking Danny Sheridan and fourth-ranking Spencer.
