BLOOMINGTON, IN (August 11, 2006) – Last night the good folks from F.C.
Tucker joined us for an exciting evening of racing. They probably sold a
house or two while they were at it, because most of them eat, breathe, and sleep
real estate. However, they are competitive people and they enjoyed
watching the exciting action on the red clay. If you're looking to make a
move call the friendly real estate experts at F.C. Tucker.
We had a little light rain early
yesterday afternoon, however, by the time the rigs started rolling into the pit
area, the sun was out. And, Mike Miles was well on the way to having his
signature track prepared for competition. After a couple of weeks where
the weather was very warm, the pleasant evening that greeted our fans would have
made for a great evening almost without the racing. The trademark
Bloomington Speedway competition took the evening into perfect territory.
SPRINT CARS -
Sixteen year old Hunter Schuerenberg
commutes from Sikeston, Mo. to compete in Indiana this season. A couple of
weeks ago he won his first feature at Lawrenceburg Speedway. However, when
he rolled into the pits last night he did not have a feature win on the red clay
to his credit. His best finish so far had come a couple of weeks ago when
he brought PHC Hunting Properties sponsored car home to a fifth place finish.
Regardless of the improvement that finish represented, no real racer would be
satisfied with it. Hunter wasn't either. However, he knew that he
was learning a little more each evening and that one night he would be the first
to cross the finish line. Last night was that night.
Sprint car racing began when Jared
Fox started his heat on the pole and proceeded to check out on the field.
Although they weren't in the same zip code with Fox, Eric Smith, Jason Holt, and
Kenny Carmichael earned the other three tickets to the feature.
Jon Sciscoe was coming off of a feature win at Lincoln Park
last Saturday. Last night he started the second heat in fifth place and he
drove to a win ahead of Schuerenberg, Kenny Biro, and Mitch Cunningham.
Ty Deckard and Kevin Briscoe both
drove to their heat race wins after starting on the pole.
Kenny Carmichael, Jr. started the
"B" feature on the outside of the front row and drove to victory.
Things got ugly after Carmichael had taken the checkered flag. Lee Stark
got tangled up with some other cars and took a nasty ride down the rest of the
straightaway and off of the track in turn one.
One of Hunter's most important
accomplishments of the night was pulling the number one pill in the redraw.
This put him on the pole to start the feature. Bobby Stines started on the
outside of the front row and he was followed by Ty Deckard, Kevin Briscoe, Jon
Sciscoe, Ty Deckard, Jared Fox, Eric Smith, and Dickie Gaines.
When the green flag dropped to start
the feature, Schuerenberg charged into the lead with Stines on his back bumper.
Jared Fox started in eighth place; and, at the end of the second lap he had
passed Kevin Briscoe to take third place. On the 13th circuit, Fox
got past Stines to take second. We then had to very good sprint car
drivers battling to take their first feature win on the red clay.
Schuerenberg held on to take his first feature win at Bloomington Speedway.
Fox held on to finish second. This second place finish was his best of the
season so far; however, he would have to wait for another day to score his first
sprint car feature win at Bloomington Speedway. Stines, Briscoe, and
Dickie Gaines would round out the top five.
