BLOOMINGTON, IN (July 28, 2006) – Another beautiful evening met
Bloomington Speedway fans as they rolled into the speedway and settled in for a
great night of the best racing anywhere. Each week another group of new
fans discover the entertainment bargain that an evening at Bloominbton Speedway
is. A couple with two small children can attend a regular weekly show at
Bloomington Speedway for only $20. That's a deal that is hard to beat.
Joining us last night was a
sizable contingent of employees of the City of Bloomington. We welcomed
the opportunity to show a new group of Bloomington residents the great
entertainment bargain available on the just minutes away from any part of the
city. We are always pleased to show our stuff to a new group of fans who
might never have seen a Bloomington Speedway racing program. If you have a
group that might like to have an outing at Bloomington Speedway, contact Chuck
Welsh at 812-824-8335.
SPRINT CARS -
Last night marked the return of
the sprint cars to Bloomington Speedway following Indiana Sprint Week.
A great field of 36 sprint cars unloaded to compete for a Bloomington Speedway
feature win. This meant that nearly half of them would miss the feature
event; however, each of them would have two opportunities to win a transfer to
the feature event. If they failed to make the feature this week, it is
hoped that they will have learned something this week that will give them a
better chance of transferring to next weeks' feature.
Fan favorite Kevin Briscoe showed
up at the track without his ace in the hole, his crew chief and father Dick
Briscoe. It was announced before the racing began that Dick was
hospitalized with some circulatory problems. However, Kevin drove to a
convincing win in the first heat, earning a ticket to the feature event with
along with Casey Shuman, Kent Christian and Chris Babcock.
In the second heat Jimmy Light
came from his fifth place starting position to win his heat trailed by Josh
Cunningham, John Memmer, and Mitch Cunningham made their way to the
feature out of the second heat race.
The third heat went to Brad Sweet
who had started fifth. Chris Windom held on to finish second followed by
Ty Deckard and Dickie Gaines who fought his way from his starting position on
the tail.
Hunter Schuerenberg won the final
heat race followed by Jared Fox, Bobby Stines, and Jason Holt.
In the "B" feature Cole
Whitt started on the pole and led the first seven circuits; however, Kenny
Carmichael, Jr., who had started tenth took third on the sixth lap, second on
the seventh lap and took the lead on the eighth lap. He then drove to a
convincing win Whitt hung on to come second with Tom Busch and Danny
Holtsclaw secunr the final two transfers to the feature event.
Fifteen year old Chris Windom of
Canton, Ill. started on the pole and led the first 15 laps, but on the 16th
circuit he spun and had to go to the tail. Brad Sweet inherited the lead,
but he had Kevin Briscoe on his tail. Having Briscoe in hot pursuit never
gives a racer a very secure feature, especially on the red clay of Bloomington
Speedway. Sweet managed to hold the point until he passed under the
checkered flags. The win was Sweet's first at Bloomington Speedway.
Briscoe held on to finish second trailed by Casey Shuman, Hunter Schuerenberg,
and Cole Whitt.
0'NEAL WOOD PRODUCTS MODIFIEDS -
In the O'Neal Wood Product
modified division the redraw put Josh Eads and Richie Lex ,side by side on the
front row of the feature. Eads jumped into the lead with Richie Lex, John
DeMoss, and Jeff Bland, Jr. in tow. On the second circuit DeMoss passed
Lex to take second place and Ray Humphrey got around Bland to take fourth place.
On the third lap Humphrey passed
Lex to take third. When Humprey starts marching through the field in this
manner, he's a force to be reckoned with. On the fifth lap Ray got around
DeMoss to take second place. On the following lap Eads tangled with Shelby
Miles and Humphrey inherieted the lead. This set up a duel between
Humphrey and DeMoss that would last until lap 11 when Kent Robinson passed John
DeMoss to take second. On the 13th circuit Matt Bex got around DeMoss to
take third. They ran that way until the checkered flags flew.
The win was the fourth of the
season for Ray Humphrey. Robinson and Bex finished second and third
respectively.
Matt Boknecht apparently had
trouble with his familiar number 22; and Kent Robinson was sportsman enough to
loan his spare mount to Boknecht to race against him. Matt brought it home
fourth. Richie Lex finished fifth.
In preliminary O'Neal Wood
Products Modified action Lex Humphrey and Jeff Bland , Jr. took the heat
races; and Brian Yateman prevailed in the "B" feature.
Tire & Wheel Center Super
Stocks:
In the Tire & Wheel Center
Super Stock division, Troy Clark, Danny Harris, and Ben DuBois got their evening
off to a good start by winning their heat races. Jack Frye, Winston Howe,
and Jeremy Hines finished second to earn the right to participate in the redraw
to align the front of the feature.
Points leader Hines pulled the
number 1 pill to earn the right to start on the pole. Winston Howe would
line up in second place followed by Harris, Clark, Frye, and DuBois.
Winston Howe got a good start and
took the initial lead; but he was only able to hold it for two laps before
Jeremy Hines found his way around Howe. After taking the lead Hines wasn't
seriously challenged.
On the 16th lap Winston Howe was
sidelined by mechanical woes; and Danny Harris inherited second place trailed by
DuBois, Troy Clark, and Joe Lucas. With a handful of laps to go in the
feature event Joe Lucas' 3J began to smoke badly and Kevin Arthur got past him
to take fifth. However, Lucas kept his foot in the carb of the 3J and
brought it home to a sixth place finish.
