APRIL 25, 2005...No less than five
drivers will square off for the Valvoline USAC Western Sprint Car point lead
this Saturday night when the series visits Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson,
Calif.
This
will be the third USAC Western Sprint race at the 1/3-mile paved oval and
fourth-ranking defending series champion Tony Hunt is the only active driver to
have competed in both the 1999 race and last year's feature. Tony finished
fourth in 1999 and 15th in last year's main event.
Series
point leader Brad Bumgarner was third in last year's race at Shasta, while
fifth-ranking Tim Barber won the 40-lap contest. Second and third-ranking
Michael Lewis and Kody Swanson will be making their Shasta Sprint debuts.
Bud
Kaeding established the 1-lap track qualifying record of 13.505 seconds in 1999.
Bumgarner's lead stands at just one point over Lewis and Swanson, with Hunt five
back and Barber nine in arrears.
Barber
and Lewis won this year's series openers at Boise, Idaho April 15-16, while
Bumgarner and Swanson had a second and third and Hunt had a pair of fourths.
