APRIL 18, 2005...Tim Barber of San
Francisco, Calif and Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind. captured feature events
at Meridian Speedway in Boise, Idaho Friday and Saturday nights as the Valvoline
Western Sprint Car and USAC/SLVRA Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series combined for
back-to-back events on the 1/4-mile paved oval.
Barber
passed Kody Swanson on the 34th lap of Friday's race and led the final seven to
win the 40-lap contest in his Bos Sheet Metal/Riverside Motorsports Park
Eagle/Chevy. Swanson finished second after leading the first 33 laps and was
followed at the checkered flag by Brad Bumgarner, defending Western champ Tony
Hunt and defending Rocky Mountain champ Jim Waters.
Lewis
won Saturday night's 50-lap race, leading the final 35 laps in his Nor-Cal
Testing machine after passing Chad Nichols on lap 16. Bumgarner, Kody Swanson,
fast qualifier Hunt and Brian McClish completed the "top-five."
Bumgarner, with a third and second-place finish in the tworaces, leads Lewis and
Swanson by a single point in the new Western standings going into an April 30
race as Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson, Calif.
Hunt,
with a pair of fourths at Boise, leads the USAC/SLVRARocky Mountain points going
into a May 7 race at Salt Lake City, Utah.
