October 19, 2005...The 15th annual Wagsdash will be held at Ventura
Raceway on October 29th. The event has grown from an original purse of $5000 in
1991 to a high of $23,000 in 2001. The race is for "the little guys"
of sprint car racing averages about $18,000 every year and pays $2500 to win,
the same as a normal weekly USAC/CRA race pays. The purse is raised from fans in
various ways. The money comes from direst donations from fans, some fans
sponsor the annual calendar or event T-shirt, a racing
silent auction, a racing quilt and other fund raisers. All the money raised goes
to the racers, and there is no fee taken from the money.
The special event this year will feature 16 cars and will be run on a regular
race night with the USAC/CRA. There will be special monetary awards paid out to
the sexiest driver, the pit stop team winner, the best appearing crew, the car
with the shiniest tires, the driver who
passes the most cars and more during the night. The annual Mrs Wags Chili Feed
starts at noon on race day and is free to fans and racers alike. It is a
carnival like atmosphere putting together fans with their heroes in the
afternoon before the racing begins.
The special attraction this year is the appearance of one of auto racings most
revered race car drivers and also car owner, Parnelli Jones, the event's Grand
Marshal, who will preside over the night and sign autographs in the afternoon. A
special poster of Parnelli's famed
race cars will be free for fans to have autographed by Parnelli.
